To start off,
I am BRAND new to hydroponics and want to setup a 2x4 flood tray
http://www.greners.com/botanicare-white-flood-tables.html
And use 5x5x6.5 square containers to hold my plant and my medium, which will be hydroton. http://www.greners.com/square-pot-5-x-5-jumbo.html
I'll be building stands like this guy did in his grow. https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/391936-prepetual-ebb-flow.html i have a 76"x76"x76" grow tent with a 450 cfm vent fan and currently am growing in soil.

Currently I average about 1 ounce per plant and harvest once a month. (I grow in a small perpetual system so that way i get some every month). i would like to keep and improve on that in hydro.

My reasons for switching to hydro are this:

1.)
I would like to lower my on going expenses. Sunshine #4 at $60 a bag and I buy 2 every month gets expensive.

2.) I replace my soil every time now instead of recycling it ( i get better yields by NOT reusing this) So, a big mound of dirt outside my home might be a little bit odd in the middle of winter :o)

3.) I am a CLEAN FREAK, so dirt and I DO NOT GET ALONG. So, as you can imagine a spec of dirt on my friggin white floor pisses me off just a little bit.

Questions I Have for RIU members:

1.) I use Humboldt 3 part system, do i feed the recommended amount even on the week I don't change my res? For example the schedule calls for 4 ml of micro in week 5 do i just add that to my res including the other nutes, or because there is nutrient solution in there do I only put in a certain amount, like half the normal dosage?

2.) I clone in rockwool cubes. Since they retain water themselves do i need to flood my table 3 times a day? Or should I do 2 times a day? Or less?

3.) When you change your res, do you clean it with bleach or hydrogen peroxide?

4.) Do your nutes separate while in the res? I have a bubbler (2 air connections) will this improve the chances that it WON't separate?

Thank you in advance for any answers you may post.

Have you thought about using the ebb and gro system. You can reuse hydroton and your probley spending close to the same ammount of money. Look at my pics I had the 3 by 6 white drain tables your talking about and also bought the ebb and flow 3 by 3 had the double system. Im currently trying to sell the white drain tables and took the ebb and flow apart for diffrent uses. Unless your doing a sog method and plan to have a bunch of smaller plants I wouldnt do rockwool. I only posted this cause I thought the system your talking about was great and I didnt like it. Sorry hope this does'nt ruin anything . Good luck let me know if you want a equipment list. 1. I use less than half the strenght and increase my potency one gallon at a time ,until the feed shedule changes, then repeat. I use general hydroponics keep it simple line and you can see my results, and I always put the micro in FIRST THAT IS A MUST, no idea why but everyone says it matters. 2 I dont use them but I believe they dont hold onto extra water so you dont have to worry about root rot with as far as I know all hydro systems. 3 No i Empty, rinse out, wipe out and then done. You'll get salt deposits or whatever they are every now and agian. I flush one day the the end of every weekand 3 full days before harvest. 4 No they keep mixing and thats what the airstone does besides add air, trust me after you add all your nutes that air stone will have it all mixxed and ready for a ec test in 5 mins. Your questions were simuliar to mine when I started I hope I helped. I have seen maybe 5 gardens now and soil peoples always have this smell. If your a clean person you'll like hydro just expect more plant in the same ammount of time space accordingly, they grow fast even under my floresents they are quick. Dont let people tell you diffrent I use the cheapest nutes and they are fine, I got over 4 lbs in 5 gallon pots with 2 1000 watt hordolox hps and a 200 watt flowering spectrum florecent but with co2. Now I got 12 in 3 gallon pots on 3 1000 watts hps Ill post the results in a few weeks

Dam, Thank you very much. i actually bought a system today, not the ebb and grow. there is a recall on the controller i guess on those things right now. 9it was on greners.com) but i bought a 3x3 table with insert tray. That way no mess and no fss. I also got the same nutes you have for free!! I shop there alot so i got a discount lol. but again, thank you and i will definitely use your advice shortly and will be creating a grow journal.

can someone briefly explain ebb and grow as to how it's different from ebb and flow?

ebb and flow is a flood and drain method but its a drain tray design with the ebb and grow its a flood and drain design but each plant is in its own double pot. one pot hold your plant and meduim and the other which the first one is inserted into is kinda the tray. I top feed mine and at the bottom of the 2nd pot is a drain hole for over flow back into the brain. reservoir connects to plants , plants send overflow back to brain, brain pumps back to reservoir cycle repeats. Good luck on the grow
