Doing the math on electricity consumption from the lights. 500watts x’s 18 units is 9000 watts, times 18 hours a day is 162,000, divided by 1000 is 162, times 30 days a month is 4,860 times 0.0789 cents per KWH is about $ 383.00 per month to run 18 550 V2's.
I think your math might be off it seems like it will be about $900 a month or maybe my math is off :weed:

Yes. I have thought about that especially during flower. I'll run those at night. I dont know about anywhere else, but the juice is not that bad on the cooperative Im on. It's 0.0769 cents per KWH.
Your electricity is 0.07 cents per kwh? Mine is 17 pence that's like 22 cents kwh.

for me to run 5000w will be about 5x18 = 90x .12 = 10.8 x 30 = 324 a month but i assume 400 for 6000w because of general electricvity

Just stick with the leds if you have the upfront cash and are growing horizontally. Your electric bill and not having to change a bulb will thank you. Not to mention the warrenty time on a ul listed hlg 550 is just super nice to have with a 3 year warrenty. And energy rebates and less water consumption ect.

There are merits to cmh/hps/mh though they shine in more verticle settings. (Imho hard disclaimer on that)

Yes, this will be a cash up front op. I've researched to the ends of the internet for the best bang for the buck, and I think the 550's are going to be a great choice. I dont want to have to change bulbs, deal with the heat, hang and wire ballasts, blah, blah,.. Unless there was a significant difference in yield, id rather conserve the energy, and save some money in the long run.

I'd probably just go with hlg, mostly because it is a ul listed fixture and you can actually Insure you can get business insurance.

I'm not sure most people take into account how much importance having a fixture ul listed is on a big grow. You'll also need it to get state sponsored energy rebates and well the insurance.

Diy is great for the home grower. Less on a big scale. My 2 cents, but I don't know your situation well.

Not to mention the bulk discount he will get on the 550s will be a hefty sum. With a 3 year warrenty minimum.
