hi guys, i know I wasked this before but as all but two of my threads have been lost so cant re read info givin to me. so I usually start from clone, but this time ive got seeds, 5 master Kush, 5 Aurora and 5 bubblelicious. ive been soaking my rockwool for bout 12 hours at ph 5.3. how much longer do I need to soak for, also whats the best way to germinate the seeds, and do I start for feed soon as they pop?

Ive never grown by seed before so excited to see them grow but hesitant at the same time as dont wanna muck them up

cheers

Sow those babies! I soak them for 10-15 minutes at the max, floated or sinking, don't matter. DO IT NOW. :)

Go ahead and set your lights up now too.. I find putting them under lights now gives them all the warm they need and when they pop they'll immediately be used to the room's temperature and lighting cycles.

ok cheers for the info, so i take seeds out packaging, put seeds in water? cold or room temp? does it matter, then while the seeds are bein timed for 15 min ill take the rockwool out of bucket, pop seeds into soaked rockwoll, place in my propergator with lid on, heater mat on under the propergator, room temp set at 23c do i need to put lights on or keep them off?

The seeds need to be at least 80 - 90 degrees to pop. I have experimented with over a thousand seeds, changing the variables and noting the number of seeds that germinated and using a heat mat gives the most positive difference. Whatever you do do not feed them yet!! When they have their first set of true leaves (not the first rounded leaves) then you can safely use 1/4 strength nutes. You will need lights but depending on what type you have and what wattage, you'll need to have them adjusted at the right height not to burn your plants. After a sprout first appears it is very delicate and, just like someone turning on the bedroom light while you're sleeping, they are very sensitive to light being too strong, so you have to "harden them off" over the course of a few days. You're not pushing them at this point to make them grow; you just want them to survive for now. At this point you have to be patient; there is no alternative; they need light but not a lot for the first week. Start with the lights high then lower them 6" a day until it's the right height from the plants.

ok so ive soaked the seeds in plain water for 15min then put them into the soaked rockwool ph water at 5.3, put into propergator, getting condensation so the humidity is rising under the 150 clf ay 6 inches from top, do I need to keep the dome on the propergator to keep the humidity up, as my room is stready 23c and at 40 - 45% humidity?

I own a dome, but I've never use it. I start my seeds either inside under 200W CFLs or directly outside under full sun in early spring. I like one gallon smart pots to start in because I only have to water once and they can survive in the container for a good month before I have to transplant with waterings averaging every three to four days. I have also used peat pellets and rockwool cubes and they work just as good, but you have to water them more frequently.

A trick I learned from my local nursery is to always lift the container at least twice a day before and after you want. Learn to get a feel for the weight of the container and water only when it feels 50% lighter from when you first watered.

Remember, you want the roots to stay moist, but you don't want them soaking, because then they'll start to suffocate from the lack of oxygen. I don't agree with keeping the temps as high as 90*F. You run the risk into cooking them at that high of a temp, but 80*F seems to be safe. I personally just keep things room temperature.

My inside grow room is a 2x2 sectioned off part my bedroom closet. My gf who lives with me runs the A/C 24/7 so the average temp couldn't be any higher then 73*F. Under the lights with the CFLs 2-3 inches from the container, it's probably barely reaching 75-77*F and mine usually all pop within 2-3 days. If by the fifth day a seed still hasn't popped, I know something is wrong, so I'll very carefully pull back the potting mix until I see the seed. From that point its almost always a seed that got stuck under a heavy piece of perlite or clump of coir. I move the obstruction and mist with water then let it continue growing.

Plain tap water and a water bottle with a good sprayer attached is the only thing I need. I never add any additives or supplements to my water during the seedling stage because they have everything they need to grow right in that little seed.

I believe there is a better way.... I used the paper towel method, going down to check on the wetness of the towel, if it's too dry, did I screw up?? Forget that crap! What I do now, is the paper cup method, 2 little dixie cups, like in the bathroom..... fill one with a half cup of water, the water that you will use for planting is fine.... put your seeds, (only what you want to plant, in the cup, Put Other Cup On Top Of Seeds To Hold Seeds Under Water!! This is IMPORTANT!! I know people that plant 20 seeds to get 3 plants), if you want 3 plants, do no more than 4 seeds, AGAIN, put seeds in the cup of water, they will float, that's because no water is in the seeds, Then put the other cup on top of the seeds, it will hold them under water ....the next day, check on your seeds, if they aren't floating, they will be on the bottom of the cup , they are ready to plant, you can wait until you see the little tail coming out, I usually do. That means that the seeds have cracked and water is now inside the seed, Oh Joy!! Isn't that what we want?? .....haha ....Bury seeds a 1/4 inch down in some good soil, Tail Down, (nobody told me this)..wait about a week to see your new babies..... I don't LOSE seeds....... Your method(s) might work as well, I'm not saying, (for those who would argue), that my method is the best, I'm saying my method works for me Every Time! and isn't that what we want.....haha....good luck.....
