New School Grower!
Hello
I am here to present some ideas to you that are not readily available. You can all go through the many good grow guides out there to get the basics down but be sure to read this to get the cutting edge growing techniques that will keep you up with the elite so without further ado I give you…
Smoke’s Advanced Growing Techniques

1. Medical Growing Large Plants
Now lets do the math here…you are in a rush to get some finished product so you throw you plants into flower asap…
From the day of cutting it takes 2 weeks to root…2 weeks stage 1...2weeks stage 2...you throw it into to flowering and 60 more days you have 2 ozs per plant.
Not to bad you spent 6 weeks from cut vegging them 60 days for a total of 14+ weeks.
Now if you would have spent lets say 2 more or even 4 more weeks vegging you could have grown plants that yield 1 lb+.
So instead of the fast 14 week 2 oz per plant you are 16-18+ weeks yielding 1 lb+ per plant.
Do the math which is really faster?
2. Lighting
Now with the technology and production of the new Led lights it is hard to buy HPS or MH anymore except for one very important use I will get to later.
I have seen many tests where 300w LEDs outperformed 1000w HPS and the new lights are 6 Band 600w LEDs! The LED produced healthier earlier/more crystals and better yield!
Now the new Led lights have many advantages. First you can get them in a broad range of colors up to 4 and UV and IR. Please note that most of the tests done and LEDs available do not have UV and IR and are only 2-4 Band. I highly recommend UV and IR as do many professionals. This broad range of spectrums allows you to customize your emitted light to the absorption spectrum of the plants where with HPS and MH you get whatever light and heat is produced from that reaction.
That brings us to the next item heat. The 600w LED is like a 2k+ HPS AIR Cooled. Its 2 inch wide design allows you to place it on the ceiling without producing heat. You can now grow plants to the ceiling with a worry!
Be sure to get as high of W bulb LED for best results…as a 300w with 2w leds is much better than a 300w with 1w. Eventually there will be 100w LED bulbs that will do some serious results but for right now they are far too hot!
These new LEDs are the lighting of the 2010s and I cant wait to see what the future will hold!
Now Back to HPS and MH…now I think that all horizontal lighting should be replaced by LEDs and I personally wont buy any more bulky ballats or reflectors! The 600w LED is 20x13 and less than 10 lbs! But it is good to combine this lighting with both MH and HPS to give as a complete a mix as possible!
To do with I use MH HPS as vertical hanging bulbs with LEDS as all the horizontal! The HPS or MH bulb hanging vertically is very efficient. Since the plant matter is surrounded on all sides of the vertical bulb it produces a volume of ideal illumination that is 3-5x the amount of a horizontal HPS or Mhs 3x3 or 4x4 area.
I usually let the plant matter stay 6-12” from the light and make sure it doesn’t get burnt but you can always use cool tube that just blow the hot air up and then you wont have a problem!
Basically surround a vertically hanging bulb with plants and above the plants have some kind of LED or MH lighting system. Use what you have but LED is so nice not to have to worry about ventlation!
If you need to make it warmer use more HPS/MH if cooler use more LED that simple!
Seed Selection
I hate to say it but to get good genetics you really need to grow out a lot of seeds. The next best strain is that 1 in 10,000 seed that is waiting to pop open. You are most likely not gonna find in from 10 but as you get towards 1000+ your odds improve.
That is one of the main problems is that it is so easy to grow from clone or a small amount of seeds that the respect for quality has greatly decreased as whatever available has become what is the best. So to really understand what a gem a plant really is you need to see it superior to 100s if not 1000s of others! Then you will find the true moms worth taking cuttings from!

Breeding
Doing your own breeding is greatly encouraged. You can follow one of the many available online guides on how to breed like a professional and you can as many seeds as you choose of your own crosses.
So basically your job is to get as many of the most elite genetics you can find and cross them with a special dad of your choice.
So whatever the best plant you have cross it with a pack you buy online or some male plant you know is elite!
This is why males seeds are so valuable because they give you access so their genes which are proving to be more valuable than the product.
They have 10 seeds selling for 1000+ dollars now and if a plants can make 1000s how much is a plant worth now?!?!?!

Organics
So you could spend thousands and thousands of the latest high tech stuff to do this and that which is very tempting because their advertising skills are far superior than their product or you could go organic.
Now you really need to go organic because its just better. Everyone knows about organic. With that being said I wouldn’t even use a major company
I would just get an assortment of guanos, castings, animal manures and stuff and makes teas and compost and use all that bacteria, microbial stuff that advanced sells for big money. Really if you just use a wide assortment of naturally readily available cheap materials you can outperform hydro and all of that because you are using true nature! So check the guides out review all the information and choose a system that appeals to you. I would not follow the marketing hype of the ways of your friends be your own person and do whatever feels right to you!
I am sure there are many new technologies that help greatly and if you know of these by all means use them. I would not follow a companies rec. program as most of is just their synthetic replication of readily available true natural products.

I understand your math here, and can relate to the 2oz. but if your using low wattage hps 150, you need to flower asap cuz the low wattage wont penatrate too much. with me its about costs to run, i would love to run a 1000w but the cost for the light and all equipment, plus costs to run the equipment would put growing my own medicine out of reach for me. just like buying my medication has fallen out of reach for me.

So...... i think this theory is really grow specific, i would yeild less with bigger plants with my hps150 and the buds would all be so small cuz they are all fighting for the light. But with my setup i am harvesting roughly every 2 months, so the low yeild wouldnt really affect my situation. It does keep me very busy, i have my head in cloning, vegging, flowering and harvesting all the time, instead of always switching gears.

Nice post, and i do apreciate your input.

This is primarily speculation with a lot of frankenstien cut and paste. My guess is you had a minorly successful grow, you did a lot of reading, and came up with these theories.

Its also adieu.

Thanks for the replys!
Yes figtree everyone's setup is different and only you really know what is best. I think that sounds like you have a good system going and you are making effective use of 150w hps.
Hi greensister thank you for taking the time to post and express your opinion. You are right the cutting edge is just that speculation until you see the results. I base my speculation on the results I have seen. And as figtree pointed out every system is different and a vertically hanging HID wouldnt do well in a closet. I have been growing for 10 years and I have been reading these things since overgrow, however I am still waiting for that minorly successful grow you speak of but I will keep you posted!
Peace

What is your preferred watering method and growing substrate? Soil seems to be doing me well but I haven't tried other methods and am very interested in deep water cultivation.

Also, I am very interested in LED lighting and am considering a mixed lighting garden when I have the funds to purchase the equipment. Could you direct me to some pictures or controlled study/grow of LED lighting? I am having a lot of success mixing bat-wing reflectors with stadium plant placement and supplemental CFL lighting. No figures on yield yet but the jump in trichrome development after I reconfigured my room was impressive.

I highly suggest you give DWC a try. You will be amazed at the difference. The plants grow so much faster in DWC versus soil and if you have any problems with over fertilizing or algae, you can pretty much fix the problem in minutes just by changing the water in your rez and treating as needed. With soil you are often looking at a week or so of stunted growth while you try to flush the soil.

It is really tough to fuck up a properly put together DWC system and the results are well worth it. :weed:

Thousands of seed sound ridiculous if you ask me. If you did your homework - you would have avoided testing out bullshit seeds, strains and overall hype of the seed! My 3rd seed did it for me. Hand down! Afang Hash!

If you used proper lighting - i don't care if it your car light...if it work for you - use it! Simple as that. As far as yields goes - most would argue.

Soil - we know soil. It a piece of shit. Its for cheap bastards. This is proven regardless how you want to put it! Hydroponic is costly, more works equal more education required. Soil - what you fighting? nothing really. Spider mites? Give me a break!

Soil people also known to use cheap nutrients. You proven that by saying bat shit, casting, etc. It not that I don't like it - it just come down to cost, education and understanding of what you learned!

LED is cheap ...over all you don't need a fan and keep your electricity down. I understand the pro and con. I don't think you do with 10 years of exp...experimenting. I got 10 years experiences! And truly understand what you saying.

You the type of guy that remind me of making cheap carbon filter, cheap sugar and yeast co2, etc. Why? Cause you doing it indoor like everyone else Mr. experiment. And still experimenting.

Everything about you in this post spell CHEAP BASTARD! End of the story!

GO DWC! Why? Ask those who know what they up against everyday, weeks and until harvest time! You soil people don't need to worried about shit! Let mother nature take it course. You dont even have to feed it. Been there done that! Just water!

I don't care what you say about lighting. You can't NEVER match mother nature Sun Light!

Now after reading this bro...Rewrite what you wrote. Make it sound professional, not some bullshit you just randomly posted because of a bad strain you smoking man! Must be that soil bullshit ...hahahahah!

Thank you for the replys.
Search rollitup for 300w led and you will see some ongoing comparisons of 300w leds outperforming 1000w HPS. If you did you homework you would know that leds come in specific wavelengths so by using leds you can actually customize your spectrum for ideal plant growth. Both HPS and MH produce much unusable energy that you dont have with LEDs. You would also know that higher watt leds bulbs 1w 2w 3w etc or exponentially more powerful. So the new generation 2010s lights blow the LED of the past out of the water. You have not seen this kind of technology before so I can understand you skeptism, but a non heat producing 2xintensity of 1000W HPS is nothing to not check out.

I am sorry that my posts have offened you so much but no one kicks a dead dog. I appreciate your energy and attention and taking the time to read what I have written. You will see the future when I bring it to you but for now you will have to wait.

So keep evolving and I wish you love, peace and happiness!

LOL, i kick every dead dog i see!

I agree with you on the LED for sure. i am currently saving up for a LED light. funny though that new tech sets people off. and you are 100% correct in you non-efficiency of HID lighting, its like 15-20% of what the plant uses, vrs. LED is right in the spectrum so it dumps closer to 90% efficiency. the photons it dumps on the plants are amazing and at the exact spectrum the plants need.
