New Neighbor

So its been a while since iv been on rollitup. Got a new job and all the rest that comes with... But iv come back to you all for some help and words of experience.

So im suffering from some paranoia after my 92 year old friendly neighbor moved out and a couple of around 50 moved in. No kids.

There property is big as is mine but my shed (3x5m 2x600wHPS) just happens to be right on the fence line.

First day he moves in and hes right next to it whipper snippering....
I have several moderately noisy inline fans in there and i realise he wont here it over that but theres a very big chance he will notice it eventually...

Would you be Paranoid? I do have 40 plants in there... thats twenty years here. and in the last month theres been 3 busts in just my suburb.

What should I do? Make it quieter or less suspicious? Iv already put some weeping lilly pillies in and hope they grow big enough to block them from seeing me going in and out.

the sound of a fan doesnt scream "marijuana grow" to me it might strike him as odd but if he hears it and immediatly thinks marijuana grow op then he grows himself (IMHO) my biggest concern would be smell first and second but probably most dangerous would be light leaks.
if he sees a massivly bright light peeking out of a crack in the middle of the night his nose will turn that faint faint whiff of skunk into a sure fire grow op
make sure you arent leaking any light and that there is no smell. then work on a baffle setup to quiet your fans if it bugs you.
get to know them as well ... the more you hide out from them the more suspicious you are to them. and the more you know about them / or the more they like you the less likely they are to snoop for a grow op.
hell maybe they are smokers

i wouldnt worry about him,but if it gets bad you can build a soundproof box for the fans....i would more worry about smell and light leaks etc..but you should be fiine

I guess you guys are right. I have my lights on 12/12 i was worried about light leaks. I guess im gunna have to fork out for a carbon filter.

Do you think insulation wrap (like you find in the roof) wrapped around the fans would make them quiter?

Hey Hellraizer30... I feel I should say hi... we keep bumping into each other... lol..

How are you?

As for bigbudeddie's situation.... I would deff. be on alert...

Nice is nice... and it seems like you are a nice enough person... polite anyways... so I would agree with befriending them...

Take any mistery out of your person... make them see you as just another average Joe...

A filter is must man... I had a batch in an Aerogarden in my hotel room ... long story... there were 4 plants about 6 inches high and 13 inches wide...

Honestly, when I opened the door to my room, I filled the entire parking lot with the stench of rotten cat piss... the outside, open air parking lot surrounded by hotel on 3 sides...

40 plants bro? that will wreak for a long ways.... you run the chance of a K-9 smelling it from a mile away... please be safe...

just as bad as the smell is a light leak... anyone that has half a brain cell will know something is not right, if they see an orange glow, or streaks of light in the fog.... shooting out of an empty shed...

Not to say that anyone that knows about growing, including "undesirables", will not mistake the glow of an HPS for anything... it's a grow light...

Panda Film works awesome... I made a tent out of the stuff, and even with only one ply, I can go to sleep in the dark, with my 600 watt tent rocking 3 feet away from th bed...

In Alaska I was raped at $110 for a 10' x 100' roll (1000sqft)... you should be able to find it cheaper...

I also worry about noise from fans attracting attention... but not where I am right now...

Eventually, my fans will get a thin plywood box, actively ventilated to keep the fan motor from overheating, and coated with soundproofing material (egg cartons and medium density, open cell foam or carpet)... ducting running out of either side, sealed with foam...

I keep reading posts and toking, so I apologize for rambling..lol...

But I do hope that along with the other posts, this helps...

Best of luck and keep it safe...:joint::bigjoint:

doing good man thanks for asking, as for this bit of info I hope he reads
it, 40 plants and no scrubbers a bad idea I think thieves will be the
issue the most and they will get busted with all that, wont be able
to control the smell either and then they will rat out your location
to get out of truble and thats game over. so $150 for the can scrubber
and you already have a fan = a good night sleep and a good stash to smoke.

what shop you get the panda film from? farnorth gardens or brandys
its not cheap I just dont want to order out of state.

Hahaha... you in anchor town eh?! lol...

Everyplace I saw it was the same price... freaking expensive... but, worth it, it's not cheap to ship, heavy stuff... so just bite the bullet and at least get it the same day...lol...

isolate the fans by hanging them from a bungee cord or 2 and get a fan speed controller and run the fan at 75% that really quiets them down and they are not very expensive. then if you really want to go all out buy some sound board from home cheapo .. i cant find it at homedepot website but a product like this Georgia-Pacific Hushboard Sound Deadening Board its a fibreboard that comes in 4 x 8 sheets and kills quit a bit of sound.
or insulate with fiberglass batting its not as effective but oughta keep alot of noise in

Thats not a bad idea. Could it be done? Tell ya the truth I would be worried about the fan noise too. If he got that close before whats to keep him from doing it again, but next time now working so he may hear it next time. I would seriously think about moving the shed or moving the op.

TO help with the light leak just calk the gaps... if you go out at night turn the lights on and hang out in the yard you can spot the leaks then calk em... tell him the air is blowing in and you spend time out there with making hobby cars and trains... I would def. make some normal brownies and take em over introducing yourself... Probly not a viable choice to move the shed if its like mine thats a fucken task for four men!!! Carbon filter and make sure your fans have space to cool the motor if you box em... that will add heat to your op!!!... Oh if you dont want a carbon filter my uncle uses a little tight ass purifier from i think its sharper image... it seems to work great but he has to clean the metal strips alot.... hes got about the same number of fems... just dont be the creapy neighbor and your good as gum drops..

thanks for you advice man. I got some pandafilm and its all up. I used expanda foam to fill what the pandafilm could not.

Iv spoken to them a few times now. I have been my normal self which seems to have them reasonably comfortable. Carbon filter is on its way as soon as i can afford one. Im on a apprentice wages ($300AUD/$190USD) so things are tight.

My brother gave me some small home security cameras which i rigged up to face the shed. it helps keep me at ease.
