new grower, need lotssss of advise, any is appreciated

i am only 4 days into my grow. have 8 plants in my closet. im using african violet potting soil plus, havent gotten nutrients yet, think im gonna go with iguana juice, hearing good things. i got tthis soil becuase it said organic, i was unaware that african violet was a flower that this soil was specified for. i know, im a dumbass have your laugh. now that thats over, it says that it feeds up to 9 months. the npk says .12-.09-.07 have no idea if this is good or not. figured since the n was highest and p was lowest, figured itd be okay. i am now realizing there is a lottt more to growing marijuana than originally thought. however, this does not deter me from my desire to grow, so i will continue researching and learning, which is why i created this account. figured id ask my questions rather than trying to read through a million threads. the information id like to obtain in a broad listing would be:

watering - ive read a lot and im thinking im going to have to just watch my plants and base my schedule and amount on the looks of the plant and looks/feel of the soil (tips still desired)

nutrients - again, i wanna go with iguana juice, but id have no idea how much to use and to apply every other feeding or what.

lighting - pretty sure im OK here but im using heat lamp clamps or w.e during vegetative im using one cfl per clamp per plant. each cfl is equivalent to 100watts, 1600 lumens, 5000k. this good or no?
for flowering i have of course the same setup, but each cfl is equivalent to 60watts, 900 lumens, 2700k. good or no?

circulation - at this moment in time i have 3 plants, but ill have 5 more planted in a few short days but im going to run them on the same schedule, because theyd only be planted exactly 1 week after the last. for now ive been opening the door and fanning it for a few seconds to stir the air up a bit. ive heard just opening the door would suffice but i wanted to over-do-it a tad bit. all the while, a small fan is on medium setting blowing near but not directly on the plants. figured this would provide circulation, though its lacking FRESH circulation. im awaiting on 2 5in x 5in ac fans. plan on cutting out the door in 2 places, one at the bottom and one on top. plan to bring in fresh air from the bottom and suck it out from the top. im hoping this idea was and is a good one. (keep in mind, the door will be opened multiple times a day even after the fans are installed, i love being around my plants)

thanks to you for taking the time and i really appreciate any advise thatd be helpful.

Generally speaking, African Violet soil is on the acidic side, so it may lock out nutrition to the plant. You want a soil as close to neutral as possible. Lime may raise the ph of this soil

Since your mickey mousing things, it's going to be more difficult and your going to have to learn a lot on your own and not trust what other people tell you.

My best advice is to get a bunch of soil test kits from your local garden center (Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Osh Hardware, etc). They go for around $3 a kit and will tell you your soil's PH as well as NPK level. The rapid test brand are the most accurate, so if you can go for those, but I've used the Ferry-Morse brand too and they're okay.

Next, buy your self a PH UP/Down kit. I like the General Hydropoincs brands and it goes for around $15. It comes with a chart, PH solution, Acid, Base, a test tube and an eye dropper. One kit should last you a few years. I normally don't need to worry about this with organics, but again your mickey mousing things and when you run into trouble (which you will) you'll be glade you have a way to rule out things and adjust PH if needed.

As far as nutrients go. Advanced Nutrients are pricey, but they are backed by really good customer support. If you ever have questions don't hesitate to call them. Are they the best? No. Are they over priced? Hell yeah. Will they work and give you a good yield? Absolutely. So if you trust them or already have them, go for it. I firmly believe that if you can provide the correct amount of NPK and micro nutrients, you can grow good plants regardless of what brand of nutrients you use. Sadly, there isn't an established perfect NPK ratio. Its all conjecture and opinions vary quit significantly.

When it comes to watering, if your using containers its really easy. You lift the container and feel the weight of it. Water it really good until you see run off, then light the container again. Get into the habit of lifting the container twice a day and water it when it feels 50% lighter then when first watered. If you do it this way, in a week you'll be a pro at it and won't run into any overwatering issues. If your going to use tap water (which I do), see if your water company posts their annual reports online. Mine did and they told me everything from the PH to the exact amounts of micronutrients and even toxins that were found in the water.

As for lighting, that's debatable. I have a huge single 200 watt 5600 Kelvin bulb that puts out 12,000 lumens. I have it housed inside a really nice Hydrofarm hood for a 2x2 area. I love it for starting seeds and growing up to a month. I don't trust it enough for flowering but I've read other posts from members here who managed to get a 10-12 grams every couple of months under 250W. Personally, I'd feel a lot better with 400W or 600W.

Also keep in mind that bulbs lose a lot of light output over a year's time. So be ready to buy new bulbs every year or get extra wattage then what you think you need to compensate for the lost output.

And if your thinking of mylar or white paints, go with white paints. They're cheaper and more durable. You also don't have to deal with hot spots or worrying about bugs that like to hide on the wall behind the mylar.

READ!! read all sorts of things on this site, regardless what they pertain to. Check sources on information you find useful. This site can teach you how to grow weed 1000 different ways...how many are right? debatable

thanks for all the tips. another question tho, i know during vegetative, higher N is good. and is it P or K that should be the highest one during flowering? and as far as the walls go, im using a black and white poly. heard good things about them and it saves the trouble of applying things to walls. though my walls are already a flat white. figured the black side was good for 'lights off' time. and im still concerned about circulation. the closet is about 4'-5' by 9'. are those 5"x5" fans at the same end of the room enough circulation for 8 plants? i heard there is...not sure what to call it but ive heard that stuff accumulates on the leaves and they need good circulation to remove this. anyone answer that? thanks again
