@Jason, what do you mean air feed light, perhaps i'm not understanding. Is a 400w hps really needed for just one plant? The strains i'm looking at only grow to about 65cm tops. Jason would you have MSN or Skype that I could hot you up on to better understand your description of how to set it up?

the link you posted on here about the tent
look down the page and it shows air cooled tubes
this will give you a better ideal

lol yea ..

if I schould do it agin ..

I would for sure spend the littel extra cash on the cool tube model .. specialy if heat is a problem or could be ..

(Im struggeling with high temp around 88F as I got a 600W potlight "ballast is in the grow room .. bulb is screw in the ballast and no colling .. guess I spend more money on ventilation and stuff to get it down to 80-84F then a cool tube would have cost me to begin with .. plus all the headake and work...

and Im still a bit high on temps :dunce:

so do yourself a favore and use them extra few buck on a nice on .. use a littel more and get a nice digi. ballast (will save you money in the long runn and can boath runn MH and HPS and some even diffrent watts)

the littel extra money used on two bulbs (MH and HPS) will pay off in the long runn aswell .. as boath bulbs will last longer as they dont runn all the time ..

400W schould be ok for 2 plants I reccon ..

if you dont veg em for months (maybe 4-5 weeks)

or if you like.. maybe 4 autos (tho some Ppl. dont like autos and seeds also cost a bit more)

I would just grow two plants at the time .. go with a nice kush/indica strain and FIM/LST them to keep them low and even .. with a littel work Im sure a 400W will be just fine ..

or get that nice a "littel expensiv" digital ballast that can runn boath 400W and 600W and go for a 400W MH for Veg (enough as plants are small and in veg they dont need as strong light so you can keep it high)

and then a 600W HPS for flowering once the plants is big and need strong light for bud producion ..

ther are many ways to go with this ..

but do the research and try to make the right choise from the start ..

tho sumtimes you just have to learn by doing .. I leand many things on my fist grow .. like I would love a cool tube .. and a number bigger out take ventilation ..

100$ could have safed me from a lot of thinking .. work .. money and would have got me the right ventilation and lamp from the start ..

tho I can allways use the small vent for intake/Veg room and a big one schould also solv my heat problem so I can runn the 600W HPS with out cool tube and still be able to get it down under 80F

I hope ...

how much did your cool tube help ? do you know ? did you try to runn it with out ?

I guess im just confused on how this thing is set up, obv the 400w hps goes up top, the ballast is connected etc, but this 6" cfm fan, where is this positioned and connected in the whole set up?

It can go a number of ways but mines setup like this...
IMG_20120622_144046.jpg.. filter connects to the fan on the suction end.. duct work attaches the the back of the fan and to the cool tube. And ducting attached to the opposite end of the ct directs air out of the room/boxIMG_20120622_144046.jpg

Dk how pic posted twice oops and above the light is kinda dark. Fan is black so its hard to see but its right behind n lil above thr right end of the ct. I'm using a 4" inline fan n ducts instead of 6" so I have reducers on both ends of the ct.. hope it helps some:-)

hi bazookajoe

your set up looks good but the ducting bend round a lot it will lose a lot of your air flow
so if heat is a problem try and make the ducting as straight as posble

if your ducting/fan/light was in a straight line it could double your airflow and reduce the temp a lot and let you get the light closer to your plants
and grow more bud :):)

Aye jason thanks man. That's bout as straight as I can get it without goin out the sides of the box. It was a lot more f'd up than it is now. If u got some idea of how to help out I'm all ears. If had it configured several ways and so far that's the straightest I can come up with.. I know the bends all reduce flow and that screws with temps just not sure what to move where

Ok so, call me retarded but im just not use to grow set ups. So you have your duct work started where the cool air comes in and it attachs to the side of the light, then on the other side of the light you have duct work taking air away from the light, thus cooling it, now would you place the fans at the beginning of the duct work where the air comes in from the outside of the tent or do you put the fan where the duct work connects to the sides of the lights? Just trying to be perfectly clear so i dont fuck up my system :)

Like I said man there's a few ways u can configure the setup, and mine sure isn't the most efficient. Because of the bends in my ducting, airflow is reduced, and causing heat issues and like jayson said-the straighter the better.
With my setup, air is being sucked thru a carbon filter attached to my fan, ducting attaches from the back of my fan to one side of the cooltube. From the other end of the cooltube ducting attaches to be ran outta the tent.
Hope that helps!!! Do a youtube search on cooltubes n I'm sure there's a vid out there to show u step by step,

this is not the best pic but it will give an ideal of how to set it up 5growrrompanspartscosts.htm_txt_2_light_room_web.gif

hi bazookajoe

one way of you getting better temps and results

6" fan attached to the filter blow air out the room

4" fan blowing cool air into the room

you need a 5" fan or the right size fan for your light
and have the air in one side of the room and thru your light and the fan blowing it out the other side of the room

just need more ducting and a fan
this will make a very big difference in temp and yeild as you can get the cool tube very close to the canopy

Pretty sure im going to change to a stealth cab or stacked stealth rubbermaid containers, maybe 2 plants with cfls, smaller indica strains, the containers are pretty big.
