G'Day Ladies n Gents,

Bare with me guys im a uber noob.
Ok so today I recieved my order of my new (very first ever) grow setup.

It goes like this :
- 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m Mylar Grow Tent
- 600w Digital Dimmable Ballast
- 600w HPS Bulb
- 600w MH Tubular Bulb
- 6inch vent fan with 6inch x 6m ducting
- 160mm Clamp Fan
- 390mm x 540mm Aluminium Reflector
- YoYo Hangers
- 100g digital scales

for $3xx.00 with 2 years warranty on all electricals and free shipping.

Now these are the freebies I got:

1 x 130w 6400k CFL <-- Might use this on my seedlings box for clones etc.
1 x 1L Liquid Gold by Rambridge

Question 1

So what I wanted to ask you guys was, can you see any hiccups in this setup.
Ive currently got 4 plants underway (2 - 3inch tall) growing in soil/perlite/coir peat mulch.
For e.g is there enough light, is there enough exhaust, enough inlet, enough internal air movement etc etc.

Also question number 2.

The free 1L bottle of Liquid Gold I received.
When and how am I to use this. Ive never used nutes before and dont wanna kill my plants.
Hence so far its jus dirt and water.
Although I do know eventually I will need to give my babies some nutrients, but I would really like to
know the best way to go about it.
Is the liquid gold and good to use? It was free so if it comes in handy thats some $$ saved.

Any advice/comments are more than welcome guys.

Please let me know if I havent left enough information here.
Also when i start putting this setup together this afternoon I will be taking pictures to show exactly what I have.

Thanks in advanced RIUians.

Jez

Yeah it's a little bit but put together looks fairly simple ! Ill put pics up this arvo !

PM me about the CFL!

whats the true wattage on the cfl?

for nutes, follow the direction. remember, manufacturers make you 1. use more and 2. use more frequently than you need to, becuase they want you to use up their product and buy more of it.

for chemical nutes, itll kill the biota in the soil and then the roots will become dependant on the chemicals. with this route, you need to feed every 2-3 weeks at 1/2 or 1/4 strength.

for organic nutes, that add and populate the biota of the soil you will need to use it every 8-10 weeks, at full or less than full strength. organics (usually) wont burn plants. i use a chicken poop, bone meal and feather meal mix. i have generic potting soil with coco (becuase peat bogs are depleting at an incredible rate) and perlite (plus soil, wood chips, you know, good organic material that the fungus and bacteria will decompose into food for the plant)

my biggest problem was that i was over watering my plants. cannabis like the soil to be dry so its roots can stretch and search for moisture. soil thats too wet will cause slow growth and sometimes even droopiness and even vegetative death when there is a lockout.

i would recommend getting a PH/PPM Meter, really helps. My setup is very similar to yours..... i don't know how much you know but check your PH, i had a hell of a time with my plants till i found out that the runoff of my soil was PH 4-4.5

Going to look into some sort of hydro system to avoid drainage/PH Issues in the future...

Check out my Sig to see my setup right now, my first grow too ;D

That sounds like a pretty nice tent set-up, dude! That liquid gold is what i assume to be humic acid which is great for vegging plants after they root. I use like 12 dif nutes the whole time I grow cause that's how I learned to do so. Listen to 69bandit and get a cheap PH kit. I just bought a General Hydroponic kit for 7.50 and 12.00 shipping. little excessive for shipping but whatever. I got it and found out my nutriet solution was 4.0 or lower. NOT GOOD. You can check out my post and look at what I'm doing. Not alot of shops carry Future Harvest Development's Holland Secret Line but, that's what I learned to use. If you want to yield a good amount, using nutes and rooting agents is a great idea. Big plants need Big roots. I'm gonna follow you so definitely update.

Hey guys !

Ok so what I'm doing now is I've done a search on a digital ph meter, easy the missus cousin has a spare one he don't use no more so I should have that by this afternoon !!
I will check the ph in the soil and the run off and I will be updating !

Also ill load up some pics on how the current setup is designed an how my plants are going !!

Thanks for the great info guys and please follow as this is my first grow it would be great to have followers able to help me out through each step of the grow !

I've heard a lot about not listening to the bottle when it comes to nutes so that's why I haven't tried yet !

It will all make a lot more sense to me when I get the digital ph reader !

So please bare with me guys as I have a lot to learn !!

Also just a quick update on the way I've been watering!

Usually in the morning before work ill do a soil drench with plain water on all my plants.

By the next morning the medium looks and feels fairly dry hence why I have been watering so often!

Also where Iam we are currently in summer so it's fairly warm ! But the plus side of this is at night the temperature doesn't fluctuate to much so I'm only really feeling a couple of degrees difference ! But then again can't be 100% sure until I get a thermometer !

I have this feeling I'm in need of more toys (equipment) !

Got my hands on a PH reader !

Ok my tap water is around 7.8 - 8ph !

I'm guessing I need it closer to 6.5ish so I'm heading out now to pick up some ph down !!

Will load up pics when I get back, sorry about the delay people !!

Here are pics of my grow setup and my plants.

Some pics where taken about 3-4 days ago and the others were taken a couple of hours ago when I watered them.

Ok my tap water I use to water is 7.8 - 8ph. I used sodium bi-sulfate to lower the ph to 6.3 i then added 3-4mls of Seasol PowerFeed Concentrate (macro nutrients, fish and liquid compost) to 2L of water.
This then brought the ph up to around 7.3, I proceeded to ph it down to 6.3.
I then drenched the soil of all my plants in this solution. They have been starved for the past 3 days of water.
I tested the run off and the ph was sitting at 6.0 .
Im not sure if I should have given them the nutes though as they are still very small.

Hey mate,
Yeah I thought about it, Ill be keeping my CFL for seedlings/clones and to veg when i got my tent in flowering mode.
Even if i do sell it I still have my seedlings/clone box which I can easily use as my veg box. But I know if I add the 130w CFL
to my veg box it will boost the lumens through the roof so in turn im guessing more light = quicker more vigorous growth.
Also its depending if I decide I wanna get a 250w or 400w MH strictly for veg then ill post up another thread to see if anyone does want it.

good plans . Sounds as if i c alot dank coming ur way....grow on................kybudz

Thanks man I hope I get a good yield for my first grow ever. Can you see if iam doing anything wrong? If i might be feeding them nutes to early.
Im trying to keep my plants bushy as possible to promote heaps of bud sites. Any tips or help bro would be awesome.
Can you see anything that I should change that might help with my overall outcome?
