New grow; selecting a mother plant.

Hello fellow growers!

I'm starting an indoor hydroponic grow, and I'd really like to nail down a good mother plant or two in order to develop a perpetual harvest. I started from regular seeds, a Cookies and Cream F2 x Sour Sprite hybrid. I now have 8 plants about 5 inches tall with 4th nodes now developing.
My veg set-up is currently one tote reservoir with 8 sites, I have two more ready to veg clones. They are in a 2.5' x 5' tent, which fits the three totes exactly.
My flower room is a 16-site DWC set-up.

My plan for establishing propagation is this:
1. Take clones from donors, root them.
2. Veg the clones.
3. Flower the clones.
4. Compare characteristics of growth and buds, selecting for the best quality.
5. Select the two best sets of genetics, keep those donors as mother plants.

Questions:
1. Is it hubristic to put that much time into determining the best plant?
2. What are the best characteristics to look for during growth?
3. Is there an earlier point at which I could cull 50% or even 75% of donors based on their vegetative growth?
4. Is it worth it to keep two mother plants? I have read that it keeps viruses from wiping out stock.
5. Should I top my mother plants normally, i.e. remove the growth above the 5th node? Are there other stress techniques I should employ?

Thank you in advance for reading my post and providing any advice.
