building a grow room 4 foot square, veg room 2 foot by four foot. 400 watt mh in veg room, 400 watt in grow room. Eight inch exhaust fans with speed contols. Will this combo work?

Sounds like a good setup. Remember lighting distance 400 watt 20-24"

You can get them closer. 11"-14" is a good distance from what I've noticed.

You put a 400 watt light 11-14"? Is that with a vented hood or not?

IT should be with a vented hood.lol. thats the way to go though keeps temps down which are the number one killer i think.

12-16 inches away is just fine for a 400w, the farther away your light the less lumens to your plant

I think that you will find that a 600w would do better in that space so long as you are air-cooled. I bet that if you get a 400 you will be wishing you had gotten the 600 sometime not too far down the line, so I would just go straight for the 600. It happens to everyone. In a 4x4 with an 8 in. exhaust you should be able to keep it cool enough with a 600. other than that it seems like you're on the right track.

good point 4x4 room is like right in the middle too big for a 400 to small for a 600 well not too small but you could go a little bigger with a 600
