New Grow Room. Newbie

So i have been wondering around this forum for a long time. I have finally decided to join the forums and start my grow. My grow space is 10x8x3.5ft. If need i can possibly get more space on the height but i would way rather try to stay around 3.5ft. Im completely new to this so any help is appreciated. How do you guys think i should go about building this grow room? Ive never built one before but i am plenty capable of building almost anything as this is in my personal shop. A list of needed things would be awesome. Only trying to grow maybe 6-8 plants. If that. I attached a picture of the area. It will be completely empty for the grow room.

Welcome . I hope you all the success In the world . First I think you will need to figure out your budget , this controls a lot of your set up . You'll want to plastic off your grow room . Heavy poly will work but if you can get some I suggest Panda film . (A poly thats black on one side and white on the other ). It's good for reflecting the light as well as holding in light and smell . After that it depends on how many watts you want to run and budget . CFLs I hear on some threads work . Can be picked up easily and cheap . LEDs work well but do have a heavy price tag for the good ones . I don't know if i would use HIDs with only 3.5' of head room .

I wish I had more head room. I could possibly expand between the rafters but that would require more framing ect... Budget is around $1500-$2000 USD. I haven't decided on led or cfl. How can I keep the plants from growing too tall?

Flower them early(6-8"), keep them in smaller pots.
Thanks for the quick response. I have never grown before but I am extremely happy to finally get a chance at this and learn as much as possible. So far I need to cover the room in panda film. I still have to decide what lights and what wattage. Id like to run hid but have the head and space issue.... And i have to figure outhow I want to grow them hydro or soil. And the different wattages for the flower side of the room and the veg side. Also what to do for ventilation and temp control

Different LED's require different distances away from the canopy, you might want to look into that and factor in the height of your grow. (I've got my Hans 3-4" away from the canopy with no LED burn)

Wasn't thinking about that... So the area 51 light is a no-go they recommend minimum 20in

This seems like the perfect occasion for some good ole' LST (Low Stress Training) i.e. bend the plants over and tie them down (carefully). If you have limited height then that is the golden ticket.

CFL's work great for small to medium grows, as long as you have enough. I would suggest at least 25-50 watts per square foot. you will also need a way to constantly provide fresh air to the plants.

A tent like that may have a lot the workings already ready to go which might make it easier, plus the height.

My sig has pics of the setup etc.

I would definitely recommend doing a combination of LST/topping/fimming, flowering early, and using smaller pots.

Pretty much a Hans panel attached to a pulley, which is mounted DIRECTLY to my roof. If my carbon filter wasn't taking up so much space I could almost have my LED hanging a few cm below my roof.

Talk about clearance? :)

IMO it's the best way to go for grow spaces with limited height.

With that being said...I would take a grow space with more height over a grow space with more width.(within reason)

Actually it looks like a nice little kit . I would add on a charcoal filter to deal with smell . And you may need to upgrade your exhaust to accommodate filter . If your growing a Kush or another dank strain the smell can get overpowering during flowering . While this kit looks great especially for a start up, if your planning on keeping this going you may want to consider using it as a guide for what to get . And getting some better name brands with warranties . $1500-$2000 is a fair sized budget and buying better products may save money in the long run . Saving in replacement cost down the road . I have found out the hard way that while cost is low no name made in china products dont often last . That being said I'm sure you'll get though a cycle or two with the kit shown . Not trying to discourage in any way just "food for thought".

So im not using a grow tent. Im going to be making my own grow room that goes up thru the rafters so i can get some height. Then Cover the entire room in reflective insulation. Im going to be running a RDWC system with 4 buckets and 1 res for now. I just ordered all the parts for that so ill post some pics when i get it together. Now i need to figure out what lights. Im still leaning towards area 51 LED right now http://a51led.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=181. My next question is about nutes. I have no experience at all using nutrients. How to do know how much to use and when? Also need to figure out how big of a fan i will need.

Got my rdwc system all done besides some missing fittings for the feed line. My 1000w light should be here next week with the cool tube then it all begins!
