New Grow Room at week 5

Decided to attempt to grow my own medicine. I built a 2 stage grow room in a 4x2x7 closet. The upper chamber is used for Veg and Flower stage, and lower chamber is used for germination and clones. Have a 150 Watt Fluorescent for the lower chamber, and 2 150 HPS lights for upper. Installed an 80 cfm (quiet) exhaust fan in the ceiling that goes to a vent on the roof, and have 2 small wall fans for circulation. I also use a humidifier (very dry here), and a small heater at night to keep the Girls warm during lights out.

Totally cleaned, painted, and sterilized the closet space. Each floor level is covered with hallway runner (Clear plastic in a roll that I purchased at Home Depot), and the upper chamber is fit with a metal pan that is used for catching oil underneath an automobile (Got a 2x4 pan at Wall Mart that fit perfectly. I completely stripped ALL oil and residue from this pan, and this works excellent for catching any spilled water or dirt.)

Got 8 seeds from my daughter, who obtained them from a very experienced grower. Germinated in paper towel, using a closed container to keep humidity high. I used Miracle Grow Moisture control potting soil. At week number 2, I (carefully) sprinkled Blood Meal around each plant. At week number 3, I used Miracle Grow tomato plant food, mixed in water (half indoor strength). At week number 5, I used Miracle Grow tomato plant food, mixed in water (full indoor strength).

I have very hard water where I live, so my pH was high. I use 30 drops, per gallon, of “pH down” to get my 6.0-6.5 reading.

Out of 8 seeds, 7 germinated. I used 6” plastic pots after germination, and then transplanted to 3 gallon Smart Pots. I use the plastic leveling blocks for Travel Trailers to elevate my Smart Pots so that air can circulate underneath the pots. Out of 7 plants, 4 were females. My grow has just finished week number 5. All the plants are healthy and vigorous, and I’ve been Flowering them for a little over 1 week. My closet is becoming crowded, but I think I can manage the plants by rotating them and keeping good air flow.

Pictures shown; Grow Room/Closet; plants at week number 2; plants at week number 3; plants at week number 4; plants at week number 5. Currently, the 2 biggest plants are over 2 feet tall, and all of the plants are showing pistils all over the place!!

My 4 plants at week number 6 (2 weeks in flower stage). My space is becoming VERY crowded. Should I be concerned, with 4-6 weeks until harvest?

You are going to run into the same issues I did with my current 2x150 HPS grow...overcrowding...I had to tie shoots down with string to keep an even canopy, and I constantly tuck fan leaves around things to keep the light penetrating...looking great so far though :D

I would not recomend miricle grow ferts

nutrients are nutrients are nutrients...the issue is the stigma with miracle grow POTTING SOIL with time released nutrients that noobs overwater releasing the nutrients to early burning their plants to hell and back and blame it on the soil ;) I use cheap ass 10-10-10 nutrients that dissolve in water(blue granules pro gardener shit) and Shultz cactus food 2-7-7+micronutrients and i'm having awesome results :D

Thanks for the info. I've been tucking the big fan leaves out of the way so the flowers below get some light. I like the advice of tieing down some shoots with some string.

I also have the option of lowering my shelf, which I don't really want to do.

The plants are totally healthy and strong, and I honestly have no complaints for my first grow. Fresh, new buds are everywhere!!

so start up a grow journal and snap some pictures from time to time of your progress...we are always here to lend a hand bro ;)

Thanks, massah. I've been keeping a pretty detailed log of my entire grow progress. Hoping for a MASSIVE harvest!! :leaf:

This is my first grow, so I might use a different fert next time. So far, no burning and no real sign of unhealthy plants. In fact, they seem to be kicking ass! Like a ton of other people have said, they did enough research (which I did) to send a man to the moon before growing their first crop.

MG may not be the best, but plenty of other people said that MG worked just fine. I do like the organic approach, and I will probably try to lean that way next time around.

I would like to know why you don't approve of MG. Thanks!

Plants are doing FANTASITIC! Here are some fresh pics from this morning. Will be in flower mode for about another 4 weeks on at least 2 of my 4 plants.

One question for anyone reading this Thread; at night, when the plants are sleeping, should I run my exhaust fans to keep fresh air in my closet? I was thinking about cycling the fans on my timer for a 15 minute period every 3 hours (9 P.M., 12 A.M., 3 A.M.), just to flush the closet with fresh air.

The fans do run all day long, and the plants seem to be doing just fine without the nightime purge. What I'm thinking is, the plants are getting dam big and I don't want any mold or other problems to start.

Good thing is, our climate is very dry here and I need to run a humidifier sometimes, and mold is not a problem where I live.

hey mg is fine got over 2 oz off 6 week flower plant who could argue with that looks great ur doing fine !!!!!

Thanks, Buddy Bud!! 2 oz is a great yield for 1 plant!! If I get that per plant, I will be more than happy! So far, I'm anticipating a great harvest and I will flower until full maturity (I won't harvest early because of being impatient).

The way it looks right now, my 2 big plants will go down first, and I will try to harvest in stages if needed. The other 2 plants are growing slower, but they look extremely healthy and very strong. I used seeds that my daughter gave me, so I'm not totally sure what strains I have.

I think I'm about 2 weeks away from harvesting at least some of my crop. Getting ready to post a couple of fresh pics. And you're right, the dam plants are hearty, and MG is treating them just fine.

Buds are getting big and juicy!!!!!!!! Any advice would be appreciated. This is my first grow, so I'm wanting to harvest at the right time.
