New ghetto-rigged micro...Help and imput please

nice set up bro! what kinda light are you using? i would suggest putting some sort of tarp or something over the entrance during flowering to make sure its light proof. your ladies look good though
 
believe its a T5 CFL 400w, not 100 percent sure since it was a hand-me-down. When flowering starts, I was thinking of sticking some 12w cfl's around the sides, on the walls.
As for the tarp, I am in the process of ordering velcro so I can get the tarp light tight in time for flowering.

nice job, and light is a biggie, as cruzin stated. maybe do some training and trim undergrowth, and not worry about side-lighting. looks great!
 
Yeah, hardly ghetto if you have an entire closet! Lucky. My wife finally let me move to the spare bathroom from the unheated corner of the garage.

I'd hang a pair of tarps, at least. I have a "light lock" set up where I go thru a pair of panda films that overlap and then I twist the edges together when I leave. Oh, and I have only a green light for maintenance. If I leave it on, accidentally, it's OK.

Looking real good. Stink won't be a problem?

Well, I'm against trimming undergrowth. If I can see the leaves, the leaves can see the light. The plants need all the light, even lower level reflected light. Just need a lot of air circulation at several levels.
 
thanks everyone, nice to hear these girls will have a solid chance for a healthy life. I was thinking of just using velcro strips to seal that tarp on, and then hang another one in front of it. Smell won't be an issue, since I live in a 420 friendly area, however ventilation and keeping humidity down will be an issue. Thinking of running an exhaust fan on the top, any idea of how to get the air out the top? links for good right-angle vents maybe...
 
right angle vents? 90 degree bend PVC pipes are great for ventilation light trap as well. Have not used them myself but seen lots of people who have, not a white one though for obvious reasons!
 
I would cut the tops off water or pop bottles and make humidity domes over your seeds.

Week 3. Here is the update on the Dream Queen. She is getting very tall, unlike her indica/hybrid sisters.

As I understand it, we want a big exhaust fan. I use 400cfm in a bathroom. Pull that through a carbon filter. An intake fan is very inefficient, and can cause pressure pulse problems with the exhaust and end up with less ventilation.

It's just a nit, but, I've taken to putting the zippers on the side of an opening instead of the middle. And I put it in a extra big fold of plastic. And I wrap the zipper in the fold when I leave. Can't be too careful about light tight. I also use double panda and an offset zipper on the other side to form a light lock entrance. Double panda because I find that single sheet will allow a substantial glow. But, it's so diffuse it was hard to understand. That's where the light meter was handy. Also, I think the panda is less reflective and more diffusive (and easier to deal with) if it's hung in loose drapes. You can even ball it up a bit to get more facets of reflection to diffuse.

Looking good so far. Waste heat is your main concern. (mine is spilling water from the dwc and cooled light.)

I agree with your idea of the double panda film, at night i actually hang up another sheet over the front. Your idea about the zipper is great, i am kicking myself for not putting it on the side. Ill probably switch it up after this grow. Whats your idea for an intake then. I need to find some way to get fresh air in or the humidity raises.

This is my other girl(SuperSour OG), see seems to be having an issue with the new growth. I have noticed she needs more water than the big girl (which surprises me). Any idea of what is going on here. Im still thinking Mg...001.jpg002.jpg
 
Well, the gold mine of cool intake air is from under the house, if possible. It just needs to turn a light trap route, a 90 degree bend will do that.
Other than that, get the cool air next to the floor. If you have humidity, you'll have to deal with it. Need low, like 40% or less.

A double decker tray across the entrance. You just step over it. The top is a layer of rock salt on a screen. The bottom tray hold water. Bring the air in low and up thru the rock salt. Hey, it's a light trap. The salt grabs the water from the air and it drips into the tray. Air intake de-humidifier? A 400 cfm exhaust fan on that space should give pretty good ventilation.
