I thought you guys might like to see this, coming to a store near you ...

This is how the current government treats us in Australia, thank you Nicola Rixon (ex health minister and who is the current attorney general, look out data retention which another story all together)

I know some people are totally against smoking cigarettes but this is way over the top

They do that all over. And its not bad. If u were 13 and saw that shit you wouldnt smoke a cig anyway. cigs aint cool, they are fucking proven killers. why would you care if thats on the package?? do you LIKE smoking cigs? i think NOBODY does, i been smoking cigs going on 10 years soon, and i hate it.

THAT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. TO DETER CHILDREN/YOUNG ADULTS FROM BUYING THEM. SMOKING KILLS, AND RUINS EVERY SINGLE PART OF YOUR HEALTH IF YOU CONTINUE TO SMOKE CIGS. lol, but i cant quit for life, which is why im trying.

We had that mate, now they don't even allow any thing on the packs and they are in a closed cabinet behind the counter so you can't even see what they have.
Apparantly if we can't see them we'll forget we smoke?
It's basically governments saying we are too stupid to make decisions ourselves so they need to make them for us imo.

Nobody is making a decision. You make your own. Gov't could care less about this packaging too. Like i said, they do this to try and keep kids away from nasty ass tobacco.

So maybe some people enjoy the feeling of a cig. If you like it and you can just say "quit" to me. then you have no idea how it feels to be a smoker and try to quit. i been trying since i started.

By raising prices rediculous amounts and not allowing companies to advertise their brand they are taking choices away from people, especially when the reason they give is to stop people smoking not to prevent new habits. If they don't want kids to smoke there should be more education provided. I know smoking is bad for me but it is my choice to smoke and I shouldn't have to pay the amount tobacco is now especially when it is illegal to sell it privately.
In NZ the govt does care about the packaging which is why they have taken all branding off, there are campaigns to change this.

I see where you are coming from. More education is needed.Like i said i smoke newports, but being only 25 with health issues i realized what i was really doing to myself. Everytime i light a cig i say its my last. but i do feel it is wrong to have cig advertiser going after kids, because they know start them young and they are hooked.

I bet bad foods cause waaaay more health problems in kids than tobacco does, so that would be fair to put warnings on anything considered unhealthy.
I don't see pics of teens lying in a pool of vomit on bottles of Jack Daniels.........
Or compulsary stickers on car doors showing a mangled car crash victim........
All choices we make which effect our and others health

but to deliberately push something that serves no purpose in most smokers life except a habit, tht kills. that is where tobacco is different. You don't need it like you need transportation or food, or pencils.

I don't see any reason people need alcohol, never much more than minor warnings on bottles.
It's not about whether it has a purpose, it's down to personal choice and freedoms. I don't mind going outside to smoke as I understand many people don't like the smell etc but as long as I'm not harming anybody why can't I make that decision for my own life?
I think companies should have the right to advertise as long as the pictures/words aren't offensive. It's part of business and some people work hard to make their brand known.

I don't drink and i think alcohol should be just like cigs. You can make a decision, but a 12 y/o child looking at a camel smoke cig may not. and may think its cool. You get it? they have to watch how these ads are made. do you have kids? How about if you catch your child "fake smoking" or even with cigs, from a commercial they saw? Would you mind, or join in and light one up too? i doubt it, you have to think about the young ones.

can a 12yo child afford AU$18 a packet, advertising for cigarette have been banned in this country for 10+ years

the change in packaging is the last step before they ban cigarettes totally

I think a 12 y/o would be more interested than put off by these pics lol.
Putting pics on the packs won't stop that kid smoking, the shop owner doing his job and the parents educating their kids will.
I can't remember the last tobacco ad I seen, so putting pics on the packs isn't going to stop anything. Kids aren't stupid they see healthy people smoking everyday and then are told this WILL happen if you smoke. They think WTF? whos telling the truth? oh well I'll find out for myself.
Exactly how I started smoking
