Howdy all
I found the growers heaven for bulbs, ballast etc today. They had all these fancy CFL lights at remarkably low prices. I bought this CFl today that sucks 85w from the mains and delivers 430w output. I plugged the bulb in and hey presto it's bright. the bulb only cost 11 Us dollars.
My question is. Has anyone heard of these bulbs or have i been stitched up? The bulb seems bright enough. Check out the attached pics.

No, an 85 watt does not give 430 watts of "penetration power"! The incandescent equivalent doesn't mean a thing, just ignore it. An 85 watt cfl provides around 7,000 to 8,000 lumens which is what you want to look at. You want at least 3,000 lumens per square foot of space. CFL's no matter what the actual wattage don't have much penetration power...

Okay gangjababy.
so do you reckon the 85w is good enough for three plants to veg well? I have a hood that covers about 2 square feet. thanks for the feed back.
