K so I was sick of constantly battling the heat my old hps with it's built-in magnetic ballast so I ordered a new air cooled hood setup from HTG, with an air-cooled digital remote ballast too. Even got a free upgrade to their 'solar six' hood since they were out of stock on the one I ordered, fine with me:-P. newlight.jpg

See, that's the hood I was SUPPOSED to get. They sent me a note with everything that says 'U'VE BEEN UPGRADED!!!!'..... LOve the ballast too, whisper quiet.

yea man theyre shit rules, i got the 400w hps setup too, got the mh convertion bulb too. i wish i got the package with the cooled hood but i dont have any ventelation so i just stayed with the basic. even the cheapest one they have (the basic i got) is fuckin great! so reflective it looks like theres 5 bulbs in the fuckin thing! not that hot iether, i mean my room gets up to like 90... cant wait to see how high it spikes in summer... but hey thats what the outdoors and cfls are for right!? i was actually very surprised that the ballast is this quiet, doesnt throw off that much heat iether.

does that hood come with a lense too?

Ya, the 'solar six' hood comes with like 1/4" glass lense.... See my closet was gettin up around 90 sometimes too, and I needed a remote ballast bad since my old one was mounted inside the hood. I got the light hung up and runnin tonight, but i still gotta go out and get an inline fan and some 6" ducting..... Then again, so far, just with the ballast bein outta the room, temps are stayin nice and cool so It may be less work than I thought.

nice. hey i noticed that your cord for the light is pointing down, its supper easy to flip it upside down so the cord can go up to that pole so it wont be pulling on the joint, just what i did, just ya know thinkin out loud.

air cooled reflectors are the SH*T..i have the easy cool...also with the digital ballast.
Although i did read that digital ballast with a fan trend to go bad fast..

I have yet to see that.

Ya, I was already plannin on doin exactly that. But it's like 30 degrees around here, so when ups brought the package, the cord for the socket was stiff as shit and all rolled up so I'm lettin it warm up so it'll relax and straighten out a bit then I'll play with it.

I could see the fan cooled ballasts possibly having some problems down the road as far as durability, but the way i see it, I'll be able to grow way more than enough smoke to pay for it if I ever needed a replacement.

Ya, me too. I don't see it happenin anytime soon, fingers crossed. Luckily now I got a back-up 400 too, just in case.

i just got the magnetic ballast myself. not too much heat even, i just keep a fan on it. and the fans are louder than the ballast.

I just set my thermometer 4in away from the glass on the new hood, I had it at 8 ant temps were 76-80 without even any intake or exhaust running through the hood yet! I'll take some temp readings and get my gals up as close as I can here in a bit.

I had to have a 6in clamp-on fan blowing on 'high' right on my old magnetic, but it did keep it cool, at least cool enough to touch the hood where it was mounted.... Is ur magnetic a 'remote' balast?

See that was my main prob with my magnetic, it was mounted inside the hood, I mean who's bright idea was that? get, it?.. BRIGHT,LOL.... I'm gonna take my old light apart, get the ballast out of the hood so I can use it too. It's supposed to run MH bulbs too so I wanna maybe get it going too, have the perfect mix ya know, HPS+MH:bigjoint: Just checkt the temps close to the glass on the NEW light, sittin between 76-78, perfect:bigjoint::bigjoint:

Well I went to good ole home depot and picked up some 6in. ducting for the light, and it looks as though all I'm gonna need to add is just one small inline fan to exhaust the heat better. But temps are still 76-78 degress at 4inches from the glass, love it!

damn man sounds great, my light is 105 at 10 inches from it................. i have to have it like 3 feet from my plant to have the area at my plant level get down to 85........... so yea........ i need more space....

See, at three feet away, ur losin a lot of lumens, and penentrating light. I wish i just would've spend the extra when I first started growing and got a light like this one from the beginning. I got my girls 4 inches from the glass on the hood, so hopefully I'll see some benifits come time for harvesting!

yea i know that, im down to 5,555 lumens at 3 feet away as aposed to your over 50,000 lumens at under 1 foot. my plant would be growing a hell of alot faster if i could have it that close... :'(
