Never had buds this big or dense! How to harvest proper??

Hey all! Week 9 flower....had a little light stress and getting foxtails and a few nanners. My trichomes are milky and perfectly formed. Starting to see a beige tinge to 10%. They started throwing new pistils and now I sense the reveg....they're flushed enough, im chopping. What's the best way to dry these? They are dense AF and about a soda can girth and liter bottle high! Hellllppp!!

Congrats on the harvest!

I've had a few grows with colas like that. I call them "donkey dicks".

I wet trim so I cut up large colas. My limited experience (5 harvests) make me think that they will dry more uniformly when the piece are more moderately sized. Maybe 3" chunks?

So break them up and hang em and monitor rh? They are seriously large. I'm proud AF, but a lil scared of the RH soaring as the put our moisture. I really want the cannitrol!

Respect RH. I lost my Spring crop. I grow 1 plant in a 2' x 4' and we had a really cool, moist winter and spring (I'm in SoCal). The plant was an LST beast 30" across by 28" deep and 24"". A shrub. I use a Growcraft veg light and then a Growcraft flower light so it was very dense.

I had fans running and defoliated more than I normally do but I got bud rot and had to toss the whole thing.

Re. cannitrol - I was convinced that was the way to go but I've got to check to see how much it holds and, second, there's a DIY thread here on RIU. You should check it out. I don't mind spending the $$ on cannitrol but if I can follow the instructions in that thread and get something that works well, I'm going to give it a try.

Fkn bud rot. I'm in southern NY and I lost all my outdoor autos. Ended up with about 5g a plant. Booooooo. I pulled the photos in early flower and brought them inside. Its an 8x10 room w hlg 600r x2. I had to trim them down to just a few branches bc of spreading rot. I controlled that but then fought aphids and mites from bringing them in. (I'm no longer treating.) After I dropped the lights bc rhe canopy was so fkd, they started reveg. Now I am just gonna chop. I've been light feeding o
For 2 weeks. Flushed 2x. I'm basically coco/perlite...essentially hydro, watering 1x, sometimes 2x a day. All I wanted was to save them, save what I could! Im just scared to start the dry bc they are bigger than my usual....idk if it was the natural sun they got for 2.5months, the nutes, the media....maybe the grower is getting better....(Me, lol). I have a hydrometer, I will just hang em I guess.

i think those plants could go a bit longer actually. still lots of white pistils.
They started revegging......the trichome are perfect....the new pistils started a few days ago. And nanners. Theyve been in flower 9w6d. I thought the same thing and dropped the lights. 2 days later they started doing that. Along w foxtaila and nanners. So I raised the lights but the original hairs are brown and curled in. The buds themselves are well structured and HEAVY. Ive never done it like this. It's either indoor or out. I see why ppl don't mix. I'm closing this crop with my 103rd plant. I've never had buds this big. And ive never had buds reveg. But I think that's going on. I'll take a trichome pic for ya

My preference is to check the trichs but the pistils are still white, per @rkymtnman, and they don't look "mangy" enough as in more curled leaf tips and changed color.

OTOH, if the mold is spreading it could be a toss up between having trichs that are not mature enough vs having to toss everything out. Close up photos of the trichs would be helpful.

So what to do? Every day they foxtail more and throw more pistils and nanners. They weren't doing that until about 4 days ago. They were sprouted may 28 and flowering almost 10weeks. Hlg 600r x2 at 100% at 22". I had dropped to 14ish and that's when this started.

No mold. Just nanners and foxtails and new pistil daily. Tricks are where I usually flush and chop. All milky and erect with beige tinge starting.

you sure it's revegging and not foxtailing?

either way, the 2nd pic has white pistils all over the place, not just the top
Idk....that's the issue. They were not throwing pistila or nanners til I dropped the light. Now they are foxing all over. They didn't have all that white. The bottom ones aren't doing that. Only the top largest colas

Better airflow and giving the ladies a proper thinning next time might help with the bud rot. Best of luck with the cure and drying process.

Yup. Too many photons.

HLG board lights have a PPFD "hot spot" in the center. At 14", that's a huge amount of photons hitting the plant, and I say that as someone who has had up to 500watts hitting the 2' x '4 (picture 1).

I use an Apogee but, were I to start growing again, I'd go with a Unit-T Bluetooth model and use a conversion factor, per below. And, for all that is Holy, avoid Photone unless you can calibrate it.

turn your light down to about 70% and drop your lights on temps too . that should slow down or stop the foxtails
So my lights came on and I'm looking at them and the hairs are actually turning red now. They weren't 2 days ago. Maybe the light moving really helped. I'm charging my microscope and I'll post trichomes
