Hey all-
I have a small pepetual grow cabinet with a veg area that is 30 inches x 40 inches for a total of 10 sq ft. Currently I have 3 2ft. 4 bulb T5 fixtures in the space but would like to switch to using LEDs, specifically the solderless neutral white XM-L2s from rapidled.com.

I ordered 13 of them and a 1400ma meanwell driver. I also ordered 5 of the 2 inch wide and 27 inch long heatsinks from heatsinkusa.com.

I figure that each led will emit about 4 watts at 1400ma, so the whole foxture would be about 54 watts.

Think that's enough to veg clones to a size of about 20 inches without a lot of stretch?

Attached is a plan for my build...

Check this thread out. Here are a couple of quotes from that thread.

https://www.rollitup.org/t/how-much-led-wattage-for-clone-trays-moms-in-general-and-moms-before-cloning.924644/

I think it depends on how the mom will be used. If you're taking clones for a major operation you want higher PPFD. If you're going to be taking 5-10 clones at a time the mom won't need much light. I was running a veg area at about 290 PPFD with plenty of growth from the mom to support that many clones every couple months with plenty to spare. That was just over 13 watts per foot, from a 35% efficient light source (cobs). Clones need even less light. I kept the clones outside the chamber with the door open. PPFD was probably under 100 (for clones).

From same thread:

go spend $50-75 on 10 100W replacement A19 bulbs (14W). one of those can cover a 10x20 tray all day long. a row of them on a power strip can raise moms well past 24"

the 4000k philips T8 replacements are $6 at home depot, if you’ve got old shop lights with good ballasts its a no brainer. 17W/ 2100 lm
