Negative Ion Generator for Odor Control

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone out there has used a negative ion generator in their grows? I guess it is supposed to neutralize organic odors while providing great health benefits to you and your plants! I brought this up in another thread and a really nice RIU member informed me that he had used one before, but that it killed the smell too much, the bud when harvested did not smell at all. He also said that the taste was gone from it.

Has anyone else every used this method? I am wondering if the THC is still present in the bud after the negative ions. Also is it possible that his generator was too large or placed to close to the plants? I would like to find an equilibrium of neutral smell in sourrounding areas while plants still sweet.

As a curious sidenote if the weed is truly odorless and tasteless after this method, would drug dogs still be able to detect it?

I have note used them. Ion generators are expensive and unnecessary for anything other then commercial growers. If you have a odor issue use a carbon filter.

Yeah I have a carbon filter, I am trying to explore other methods of odor control. Plus negative ions are supposed to promote growth, not really getting that with my filter. Negative Ion generators are actually becoming quite reasonably priced as more people become aware of their benefits and more companies make them. I agree they can become quite pricey. However when you are talking $50 to $150 for a filter that eventually needs to be refilled or replaced and I can purchase a ion generator anywhere from $40.00 to Hundreds of dollars, that never needs replacement. The question is how well does it work, and what effect it has on the bud that I am very curious in.

On ebay they make models for cars and little bigger ones for fridges. They start at around 10 dollars, I was trying to figure out a backup system that would neutralize the room not neccessarily in the hut.

HaHa, yeah WebMD has an article about its healthful effects, I did not see anywhere on there about possible side effects of death. Are there negative effects also?

i dunno i know too much ozone can kill you and this is an ozone generator from a giant industrial machine shop for use on like 1000s of square feet i think got it from my gf's dead farthers machine shop we never hooked it up cuz i know too myuch ozone is bad for you

i dont think that is the same thing as a negative ion generator though negative ion generator i think just puts a negative charge in the air or something and causes all the particles of shit to stick to the filter

Holy crap Goat, I would not plug that thing in either. I just looked at in on Wikipedia and here is an excerpt about Ozone Generation:

"In the US, air purifiers emitting lower levels of ozone have been sold. This kind of air purifier is sometimes claimed to imitate nature's way of purifying the air[44] without filters and to sanitize both it and household surfaces. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has declared that there is "evidence to show that at concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone is not effective at removing many odor-causing chemicals" or "viruses, bacteria, mold, or other biological pollutants." Furthermore, its report states that "results of some controlled studies show that concentrations of ozone considerably higher than these [human safety] standards are possible even when a user follows the manufacturer’s operating instructions."[45] The government successfully sued one company in 1995, ordering it to stop repeating health claims without supporting scientific studies." ...Wikipedia

Wow, yes I believe I want a negative ion generator and not the ozone.

Ozone is bad... sure you can get rid of smell with it, but at the cost of your plant's and your own health. I've heard many people say they work if you place it outside the growroom, but I wouldn't risk it... you could die like Goat said... thats a trippy avatar

oh really???

did you get the negative ion generator?

I have a carbon filter too and I just bought a honeywell air putifier and it also has a negative ion generator. It says it can do up to 13'x13'. We'll see.

dude i bought a small table top one when flowering 1 white widow it killed the smell literally the plant didnt smell when i harvested it . The remaining smell of the plant was very mild and stale. I did some research and started reading people had the same thing happen. I can turn off the ionizer so its just filtering and using uv light im goin to try it next time hopefully it doesnt do it again.

its called the germ guardian or maybe thats who makes it not sure. i remember the box saying it filters a decent sized room in like an hour. It has little uv fluorescent tube inside to kill bacteria and has little 8 x 8 filter it was liek 50 or 60 bucks or something. Im hopefully going to get a carbon filter to connect to my 4' inline fan and ducting for my next grow. Im gana have a journal soon dina fem california hash vegged 2 weeks in 1st week of flowering now. I wanted to do a 12/12 from seed but decided to veg two weeks instead. great white shark and church SOG soon after

I found a simple permanent answer for smoking odor control one simple application removes odor from carpets, curtains and furniture. While researching in China I came across a product that you mix with paint that eliminates odors by releasing negative ions in the air, works by convection currents, warm air rises cool air falls creating a natural flow of air across the painted walls. I have had this in my home for over a year, works like a charm. No odor, no electrify and no problems. A packet cost $39.00 mix into one gallon of paint, one application works continually no re-application required.
