Need to slightly reduce fan noise.

Hi guys

I have just fitted my fan in my flower cab(see attached pic), i have used bungee cords so have no vibrating and i have accoustic ducting from my top cab to the filter so there is minimal noise there.

Im finding though that when the fan is turned on it seems very loud, if i cover the intake hole with my hand it is much more acceptable so i need to figure out a way to slightly reduce the noise from the intake hole which is in my cab.

As you can see form the pic i havent room for an accoustic box to fit the fan it so im really stuck. I was thinking maybe some sort of small muffler that fits on the inside of the of the intake hole but not sure if this would work.

I only have to reduce the noise slightly and as i say the only problem noise i have is from the actual intake hole itself.

Any suggestions of a way i could reduce the noise a little would be great, im not bothered about it being silent i just dont want to be able to hear it from outside the room my cabs are in. Not having much room doesnt help
 
another thought, if you have limited space for carbon filter & are ok with the odor, try some aquarium filter matting & tape that to fan, just an idea.
 
I have a carbon filter above it in a smaller cab, to this i have attatched acoustic ducting. I think what i may need is a fan speed controller as im using led lights heat wont be an issue so i dont think i will need the fan on full power. Its a low powered ruck fan but boy its still powerfull!!
 
Watch out I bought a fan controller , it cuts down the air flow noise but then you get this humm from the fan that is just as loud . Imho
 
Thanks for the advice guys, i definately need a speed controller but i dont want to get one for it to create a different noise lol, kind of defeats the object.

The fans i have are .3 amp max so i think i should be able to get away with running the 2 fans off one 1.5amp controller. If anyone has a cheaper alternative please let me know. I dont mind a slight bit of noise.

To me different brand fans might be quieter . I have a growbright and there is no way I can use it. Even when I duct taped half intake , with fan controller and ducting running to scrubber. Its just not stealth enough for me. I'm sure a better brand might work different with the fan controller . There are variables I'm sure with different brands. I shouldve mentioned it in my previous post.
 
They are called variac's. In principle, it's the same thing that a model train set uses. You want to vary the voltage to control motor speed not resist the current (which would cause motor hum).

If im correct your saying that your pushing air through your carbon filter?? The filter is designed to pull air through it not push thats why the dust filter is on the outside...... Why not just put your carbon filter INSIDE in front of the fan thus eliminating the noise and at the same time using the fitler in the way it was made to use.....Kinda like killing two birds with one stone......I mean it only makes sense to do it that way..... just an idea

No im pulling air through it. I just think my fan is set to too high a power and i need to get a controller to reduce it.

Well then im missing somthing becaues in your picture your fan is open on the front and i see no filter so how are you pulling through it?? If you where pulling through the fan then it would have to be INFRONT of your fan not behind it......... Is this picture old have you now put your filter in front of the fan inside the grow box?? I dont get how your pulling through it when you said its on the back side of the fan??
