ok im 19 I used to work as a mechanic at a garage but i really dont count that as a legit job cause it was really unprofessional (ie: gettin payed under the table, no safety regulations .. shit like that) anyway i applied at a legit garage and haven't gotten any response but a know their hiring so what should i do.

doesn't matter if it wasn't legit. You worked as a mechanic. That's job experience. Did you put it on your application?

Pretty sure you need to be certified if your not already. Someone is bound to take a chance and might even pay you to get certified.

do you have your own tools and transportation and did you clean up and talk to the manager of the garage or just drop off an app. and run off on your skate board

stop smoking so you can pass a drug screen if they throw one at you
I stopped a month ago and sprung for a detox kit, I DONT skate, they dont require a certification for the position i'm applying for and i did talk to the manager and a i got a generic "we got your application and are going to look over it" i'm completely lost

clean up stop by early in the morning talk to the manager sell yourself ..that is only if you relay want to work , or just keep holding on for that call

Now it's time to be persistent.. Call them every few days to see if they had a chance to review your application.. Even if this comes across as pestering it will leave an impression that you really want the job. This strategy has never let me down..

Agreed. That might be what they want to see, asides from your experience. A lot of jobs are like that, they want to know you're serious about taking the job and not just applying on a whim. Just call them and/or go by to see what's up

posting on craigslist puts in work, try it.
if your good at something, never do it for free!!!

I agree with those telling you to drop by early in the morning. Show up clean, wearing dark blue or brown dickies work pants, work shoes and a decent work shirt, and your hair neat and in place. Sell yourself... They'll know your experience because you are young. You have to be willing to learn, aggressively, go after certifications and be reliable. Showing up early every morning, asking to work, or being ready to work. Even experienced shops take on rookies to do the dirty labor while they tutor and train them.
