Need tent advice

Hi Guys...I've been growing in an 7x8 room...oh...about half filled. I have a small workbench and an isle with all plants on one side. It works ok...but looking to make some changes.

This is my idea...the ceiling is angled with one side having almost 9' of headroom. I have never grown in a tent...and I need tent advice.

I want to raise a tent up 2'...so I can fit a res underneath...then a flood and drain tray sitting on the floor of the tent. The plants would be at a nice height to work on. I don't even know how the zippers work...from the bottom like in a tent?

You guys see any obstacles to this?
Cheers,
JD

Sounds like it will all work. Wish i had the headroom you have there. You will obviously have to build a platform for the tent but im guessing you know that.
Some tents have a single zip door like a camping tent, my gorilla has two per door, and a center zip to connect the two.

Thanks boatguy...ya I figure all I'll need is a chunk of plywood and a few 2x4s...don't want it to collapse. I'll have to do some ladder work getting the ventilation and lights. I have two nice 315s and I'll use my led in veg. Maybe two 3' tents with a 315 in each. The extra space in the room will be for Mommas, clones and stuff. I want to keep everything in one room...place is getting too cluttered even for me! (and I'm a slob)

You have another thing i am lacking there, a decent control room to put the tent in. If i could control the humidity and temps in my basement it would eliminate alot of difficulties in the tent. The clutter i have, all around the tent.

I feel for you...basement grows can be problematic. Can't you just build a room down there? Well that only works if you own the place.

I have always grown in either a spare bedroom or a specially constructed room. It's important to get a good starting environment.

I started in a spare bathroom,
Now I go camping in the basement ⛺.
I now have one small bedroom to use, and found a three tent system to be most ideal. -after the fact.
One flower, veg,
and a dry/cure/abnormalities tent.- for those unexpected situations.
So don't go overboard like I did on flower tent size. -only have space for two tents.

Back to your question, the zippers:
They have one zip doors that have rounded corners and varying heights of theses door sills.
I find these open the best compared to the straight zips. -because the vertical straight zips also have horizontal zips intersecting at the top and bottom.
It's a pia to close properly.
So you'll have to look online at design and door positions. Also look at where the passive intakes are located and will they function and keep light away from other tents/girls etc. -I have seen passive intakes w Velcro covers and others just came w a scrap of tent material to cover it somehow w tape I guess. https://www.growlights.ca/growtent-systems/ultra-premium-grow-tents-1680d.html

Go with the thickest you can afford.
Look for all steel frames.
No plastic corners.
Check reviews-these zips need to last.
I like the fusion hut tents as they're in my price range. Only a year so far w mine and no issues.
Ship to the nearest depot and call for pickup.

Hope this helps ya!

I know some people talk down about the secret jarden tents but I've had mine for over a year and a half and am not disappointed. Has 2 zips so you can make your access where you want it. Pretty sturdy tent and all the issues people have had I didn't. But the issues that I have read about with a little mechanical experience you would have seen a issue and fixed it or returned it. I still want a dedicated room again though. I like your platform idea.

Thanks Dark Web...I'll check them out. That flexible zipper option is good...that's what it's going to take...flexibility to get this to work.

Hey CookieRider
Thanks for all the info...very thorough. I have a 6" Panasonoc exhaust fan that I can put a splitter on and run to each tent

Yes I suppose the ventilation ports will need to be appropriately located...I'll be sure to look at all that before I purchase. Will have to be sure I have room for the hoses too.

I was doing a little math and with a 32" tent...seems a 315 cmh would be perfect.

This room is half of a add-on room to a trailer in an RV park. I'm a tiny house grower. The other half is shop area...but I keep my dehumidifier there and use that room for drying. So maybe two 32" for flowering.

The new version I believe even has the option of where you want your vents and such. It's pretty cool.

Excellent...that would be perfect...do any of the manufacturers make any that are designed to be hooked together...shared exhaust?

Tent zips don't go right to the floor level, they are maybe two inch above , the wire and duct socks are higher still. Not that you couldn't work around that but you could just as easy have the res and tray in the tent itself and still have the plants at same height they would of been.
I used to have a flood and drain pod system with a res and frame below, it cost me 2ft but it was still easy to grow in there without any fuckery.

Thanks Corey,
Two things...I'm 71 and trying to make my garden easier to tend. Plants would be at waist level. The other issue is that I grow sativas...sometimes leggy landraces. 2' of extra headroom could mean the difference between success and failure. But I'm taking what you said seriously. Just exploring ideas right now.
