you could get a HID kit that won't require much work to install but will probably cost a little or you could go the route of CFLs or you could combime CFLs & Fluros or you could do L.E.D. which I believe are still being tested but several people are currently using them. Heck if you have the space & money combine all of them in all the different spectrums & you probably get the best light set up ever!

hydrostores or websites like htgsupply.com and hydroponics.net the air cooled is a good way to go but plan on spending a little more on supplies and electricity. Your houses elictricity should be fine just make sure to spred out the power if your using anything more than that 1000 watt. and btw i think more 600 or 400s are better than one 1000. also get a digital ballast u wont regret it

Do a google search on "hydroponic lighting" - it doesn't matter if you are growing in soil - but this will narrow down the search.

You can read and educate yourself about lighting that way or check out the Grow FAQs on this (and other) websites or you can purchase or peruse indoor gardening (including the marijuana-based) books at your local or online bookstore.

And to be blunt - if that sounds like too much work - then you may want to reconsider growing as it can be a lot of work.
