About a year and 1/2 ago I was like you debating whether to grow in soil/ hydro. I chose soil and I'm glad I did I've had 5 successful grows, Hydro is suppose to grow faster and produce more bud , could be but if you maker a mistake you don't have much time to fix it before it becomes a disaster. You have to keep your res at the right temp and really watch your ph. You have to watch your ph in soil but it's not as critical you don't need to act so fast. All in all in my opinion your better off starting out in soil . Happy growing and may all of your harvests be bountiful.

5 gallon DWC. If you have to learn then might as well learn on that and reap the bigger yields. I switched to DWC last year and will only grow in soil outdoors from now on.

You are mistaken somewhat. Hydro is not light speed in growth or negative/positive effect. And, unlike soil, you really can control your pH, your EC/PPM, and temps a heck of lot more than with any other medium. Once your pH is set unless you screw up it is pretty much static. In fact changes in pH are often a very early sign of trouble or changes in the plants. The yileds alone make DWC versus hydro a non-argument in my book. If you like things like turtle races go with soil or coco.

IMHO soil is the only way to grow for a few grows. You learn the basics and can concentrate on the plants and basic botany without getting all tied up in pumps and ppm and testing and whatnot. K.I.S.S. for a bit is my opinion. Soil is cheaper to get into also.

DWC means deep water culture is is a hydroponic way of growing. If you are able to research (google) and read up on it, like hotrod said above you will be happier with the end result.

ok so i found that my local home depot sells cocoa coir peat.so i want to try and use it as my growing medium,is that better to use then soil if im starting to grow my self?

yes but im going to try some cocoa coir too along with soil, but my big problem is that i dont what any of my seeds are,my best seeds are from some dank i bought awhile ago,the others are just from brick junk weed.so where do i get some good seeds

Are you in a library at a middle school somewhere?

First off Aim Aim is probably right. Start in soil I reckon but start reading now about hydro so you can transfer it all ASAP.
There are people that will put in necessary hours of research and do it right and pull off a bountiful hydro harvest first time. But I think they are the exception rather than the rule. Your average novice seed popper can drop a seed in some decent soil, with some decent light and get some decent smoke.

In my experience I've grown outdoors since the late 70's and spent a career in a botany based professional position. This is my first full indoor grow and I've had plenty to learn about growing mediums, lighting, ventilation etc. Maybe I'll look at hydro down the road but I have had plenty to learn about indoors in general without adding the hydro factor.

Bmeat and Finshaggy are testament to just how tough this plant is, yer gonna get something to smoke with soil. And it's important to get some results from your first efforts to keep you motivated. Keep it simple: good genetics, decent soil, adequate nutrients, excellent light, security = weed in the bowl.

Here's the deal it's known that hydro can produce higher yields quicker, but what do you want quantity or quality? It's a known fact grown in organic soil gives the best taste and flavor...

If you want the best of both try this...
