Hi all,
Getting ready to embark on my first vertical attempt. If you could please give me any input or suggestions on my plan and set up I would really appreciate it. So here is the set up.
7ftx7ftx7.5ft grow tent
1000 watt hps
600 watt hps
4 shelves 3 ft off the ground
Coco coir for medium
5 gallon pots
730 cfm exhaust fan
540 cfm fan for carbon filter.
Description:
The room the tent will be in has central ac and i will tap into it somehow if the fans cannot properly keep temps under control. The lights will be stacked in the center of the tent. I will have four shelves that surround the perimeter of the tent. These shelves will be 3 ft high. I will stack plants in 5 gallon pots on the floor around the stacked lights and also plants on the shelves. I was thinking anywhere from 25-35 plants. I plan on vegging the plants from seed for atleast 6 weeks if not 8. I will attached chicken wire behind the plants on the floor and on the shelves to train them while they vegg to virtually make a lower wall of green for the plants on the floor and also an upper wall of green for the plants on the shelves. The shelf near the entrance of the tent will not have chicken wire so i can move the shelf and also move the plants on the floor so i can get in the tent and allow easy access for watering ( i will hand water the coco). This set up will virtually create a 2 level box of green around the lights or atleast i hope. The lights will be about 30 inches from the plants on the shelves and 18 inches from the plants on the floor below the shelves. I hope with training to utilize almost all of the area of the tent. I will train the plants by spreading the braches and twisty tieing them to the chicken wire screen ( I wont be weaving in and out of the chickenwire) thus creating a wall of green with all the plants ( almost like JigFresh's except not with a cylindar shape, but rather a flat wall of green). I plan on having 4-5 plants per shelf and 4-5 plants under each shelf on the floor. Therefore I will have around 30-40 plants total. If I plan to veg from seed for 6-8 weeks under the 600 watt hps and then flower under the 1600 watts, does this sound like a good idea and do you think i could accomplish 1.0 gpw.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have considered not using the chicken wire to train but I can only make one run through as of now so i wanted to use almost all of my seeds. I figured if i didnt use the training and chickenwire and let them grow naturally that 35 plants in a 7x7 area vegged for 8 weeks would get too big and would be out of control and not utilize all the light.
what do you guys think? Ive been contemplating this set up for awhile trying to pick the most effiecent way. The key is I would like to keep plant numbers under 30 and vegg them to however long i need from seed under 10 weeks at the most. I would really like to hit 3 lbs my first time through. Does this sound good or how would you alter my set up to accomplish this? Should i stack 600 on bottom with 1000 on top or vice versa?
Please let me know what all you experienced growers suggest. I am an experienced horizontal grower but am completely new to vertical.
