as the title states. not looking to spend buku dollars for a bulb that's only going to be used for 2 wks. need something that's compatible with digi ballast. thanks in advance.
need recommedation for good metal halide bulb for first 2 weeks of 12/12

hey thanks for the response but mines are from clones with 10 days veg time. i wanted to not only try to minimize stretch but also would like them to bush out within the first two weeks of 12/12.

i would have to disagree with you on that one, in the winter i ran a 1k with no fan and the highest it got was 72. when i did run the fan the temps used to drop down to the higher 50's. it's until recently i am having heat issues (85F), a/c conked out on me but i just replaced it so everything should be back to normal.
besides there are people running 2 1k's in a 4x4 with lights properly cooled, so a 1k in that amount of space is nothing.

True, but aside from heat issues if you can handle them. having that much light in a 4x4 space is a bit counterproductive. You could in theory shove 2k+ watts in the same space but would it be beneficial to the plants? They can only take in so much light. Once you get to that point you're just wasting light and money. IMO 1000w in a 4x4 space is a bit beyond that point.

okay i feel you on that one. if i had that advise when i first started out i would have definitely took it, shit, definitely could have saved me some money. i brought all 1k's and a couple of tents listening to certain people with their recommendations.

To the op: I juat use cheap virtual sun mh bulbs until the stretch of flowering is done then throw in the nice hps. I think there between $20-40 depending on how many watts. Over $25 it ships for free and the the one time I got a broken bulb I had a replacent in 3 days no questions asked.
What kinda boost in yield did yall see in the 4x4 tent with the 1k watt over the 600? I wanted to try that this winter

Im by no means and expert but I think if you use the mh at all youd want to use it the last two weeks. its reported to increase trich production. (the uv aspect)

I have never heard that so I wouldn't advise that. Metal Halides are in the 5100k+ spectrum, promotes vegetative growth. HPS bulbs are in the 2100k range, promotes flowering. I really wouldn't do this. Ever.
In short, metal halide for veg. hps for flower

Ive heard of using mh the last two weeks for trich production. I did try it once and 9 days before harvest I seen pollen sacs everywhere on 5 girls. Thats the only time Ive had hermies and yes I blame the mh lol others sware by it. It def cuts down on the stretch though in the first two weeks. I leave the mh in until I srart seeing lil buds forming.

There are certain times when you want to listen to people, and certain times when you need to make your own decisions.
You see a lot of people here regurgitating the same things they've read over and over "MH for veg HPS for flower. no exceptions." Guaranteed most of them have never flowered with MH or vegged with HPS. They just regurgitate what they've read on forums. It's funny when you realize that a lot people on here giving advice don't even grow (at least not successfully). edit: Not calling out anyone specifically. It's just something I've noticed on this site.
You can successfully veg with HPS, and you can successfully flower with MH. There's a difference in spectrum, and MH gives you a bit less lumen output.
As far as bulbs:
With most common MH wattages: 400, 1000 you could use a standard Sylvania brand. Probably available at hardware stores and they won't break the bank. a 600w MH bulb isn't as common. For a 600, you can get a CAP maxlume. Just make sure you go to a grow shop and buy the bulbs locally, because the CAP company is shit, and their maxlume bulbs are notorious for arriving defective. You want to buy these at a phyisical store so you can take it back incase this happens. If you do it online, it'll take fucking forever. Their returns department is awful..
You know what, you're better off just buying a different brand of MH light. CAP maxlume is really cheap but they arent the best quality.
Anyways... If you're lighting from the top in a 4x4 tent, the wattage depends on how big your plants are. If you're SOGing, you can get away with a 600. If you want to have big, tall plants in there and not worry about adjusting light heights, just rock a 1000
