Need participants for SuperSoil vs Coco experiment

I don't do soil but I like experimenting,

I know there are other many benefits for using supersoil, but here I only want to compare growth rate.

So before I go out and buy all the ingredients for SuperSoil, just to find out that I still prefer coco, I figure it'd be easier to compare my results with someone elses.
I like how roots grow really fast and healthy in coco (still white after harvest), so maybe there's a way to do Subcool's supersoil with coco.

If you grow in either of these mediums and are interested just say you're in.

in order to limit variation in growth, lets stick to TGA strains only.
I have clones of these strains ready so it'd be better if it were one of these: Apollo, Qleaner, Vortex, Jillybean, SpaceBomb.

Exp 1: Comparing growth from 1-2 clones (small clones under 5")

Exp 2: Comparing growth from 1-2 seeds. Plant straight into medium (no paper towel method)
(I realize not everyone has TGA seeds lying around so any seed / bagseed will do, just make sure it's viable).

My training method will be topped once & LST'ed.

Starting time isn't important just keep track of when the plant went into the soil. I'll be starting mine on Nov 1.
Will only be comparing veg time of 1-2 month.

I also have some 2 week / 4 week old plants from seed if anyone wants to compare growth rates. I'll get a pic up tomorrow.

I do not think many people use Coco around here. Personally, I love it...and will never change. If you dont mind me asking, what nutes do you use? I used to do DWC for a decade, but switched to Coco a couple of years ago and never looked back. I highly suggest using Smart Pots with Coco. Good luck on your experiment, but if you do both right...you know which one will yield more for sure. I have some Querkles and some Space Dawgs that have been around for a year. Space Dawg is the shit and yields really well. Querkle is good, but lighter yield.
I have 10 other TGA strains to start and will be starting 3 of the strains this weekend. Vortex, CheeseQuake, and Apollo 13 BX.

Can you tell me what is your favorite TGA strain that you have tried? I will keep some updates on my status...but I use Coco as well. Comparing grows would be really hard, unless everyone has the same size room, lights, temps, etc. Too many factors to compare...you would have to compare for yourself to see which is better. Take care.

I use botanicare cns-17 coco grow/bloom/ripe. First run with it and it's pretty good. PH balanced. I have nothing to compare it to though. Next run I may try H&G

I was using self-made air pots but found it made the coco dry out really fast outdoors. Next run I'm using coco hempy buckets.

Favorite TGA strain so far is JillyBean for the smell, and Apollo-13 bx for the bud structure. Havent had a chance to smoke em yet, it's my first TGA harvest in 1 week

Another line of nutrients you could try in Coco is General Hydrponics 3 part Flora series(Grow,Bloom and Micro). Just a suggestion, worked great for me in soil so i thought it would probably work great in coco.

So this is your first time growing in Coco? I have been doing it for 2 years now and use GH just Micro and Bloom...no Gro. I also use Kool Bloom in Flower a few times. My Smart Pots are not homemade, they cost $3.50 and are reusable. By far better than any regular pot. It will not dry things out faster, actually they stay moist longer. But the best investment I have made in over 10 years was Tropf Blumats. Hands down better than hand watering and my plants grow extremely fast. If you are thinking on switching nutes, you should try 6ml Micro and 9ml Bloom GH nutes. H&G is really good, but way more expensive and you have to buy a ton of products. Roots Excell is good shit I use it to Clone in Coco and get roots in 6 days. Good luck.

I like hempy buckets, because of the insane growth rate. Recently, I noticed that my plants from seed caught up to my clones in regular pots that were 2 weeks ahead.

I've thought about lucas formula before, but it doesn't really save you money and I don't see the point since instead of buying all 3 you still need to use a 2:1 ratio of the micro/bloom or somethin

H&G is expensive, but I am only going to use the base nutrients. I currently already have small bottles of coco A & B which I'm testing.
I think additives are a scam from my experience so far. I've tried adding ginormous to my botanicare line, and it didn't make a difference (except when used early it would brown the hairs). I've tried humic acid / fulvic acid / voodoo juice. All of which didn't make any difference in growth / health.

I think additives are essentially just leftover ingredients from their manufacturing process so they stick it in other products and try to market that. Not to mention that they won't make any money if they only sell base nutrients.
Brands with good NPK ratios in their base nutrients have no need for flowering boosters and the like.

I run drippers, that is why I use GH nutes. 6/9 is not the Lucas formula...that is 8/16 and that is for hydro. No need for grow, but I do use Magi-Cal because I use RO water. If you want a cheap and really effective nute to use in Coco, try Maxi-Bloom powder. Works really well and is really cheap. Same thing as GH Flora series...just in Powder form and is just 1 part. 1/2 tsp per gal for clones and seeds...1 tsp per gal full strength. pH to 6.0 and it things are perfect. I just like the liquid because I cut the Micro out in flower later.

I like the 2-part of H&G because the NPK gradually increases in flower, so the plant is still getting N. I believe in keeping the leaves green until the last 2 weeks.

With a 2-2-3 ratio on the CNS Bloom, I already get early yellowing so I don't think Maxi-Bloom has enough N.

Am considering the 6/9 with GH, but I'm used to a 3-1-2 ratio in veg and wonder how that compares to a ratio that has higher P&K than N.

If you have pics of 2 weeks /1 month /flowering plants from seed that'd be great.

I was just suggesting Maxi-Bloom for an easy and cheap 1 part nute. It works really well actually. But I use 6/9 and cut the Micro a few weeks before flush...that is where the N is. I also use Kool Bloom a few times is flower 3-4 times as a PK booster. I have the whole H&G line up, got it for free, but I am not switching perfection. I have my set up dialed in, so unless I get unhappy...I am sticking with my recipe. Like you said, most additives are junk...no need for all of that. Here is my recipe to the T

6ml Micro
9ml Bloom
3ml Magi-Cal
.4ml Drip Clean
3ml of pH up pH 5.8-5.9

Then I hand water Kool Bloom end of week 2, 4, 5 for an 8 week strain. Plants stay green until flush, then flush for 10 days. I will get some pics for you later. If you hand water, you do not need the drip clean. If you want to make your life a lot less hectic and your plants to grow even better...invest in Tropf Blumats. 65 bucks will set up 12 plants and crushes hand watering. Instead of spending hours watering, you fill your rez a couple times a week. By far the best investment I have ever made. Hydro growth rates...but way less work and extremely healthy plants! But FWIW, your plants will get really big...really fast. So flip sooner than you expect.

Do you find that your bud hairs brown early if you use Kool Bloom? it has a crazy amount of P/K, probably a lot more than your plants need. I get early hair browning when I add only 1 tsp gal of Ginormous (0-18-16).

Is drip clean for flushing? and why don't you need it if you hand-water?

Oh yea i've heard of those blumants thanks for reminding me, need to get some!

i use a product called monster bloom and i think that it is 0-50-30 and i get no browning of hairs what so ever but the product only calls for a tsp / 5 gal. Maybe try it half or quarter strength and see what happens.

No I do not get early browning. It is very potent, that is why I only do 1 hand watering to run-off 3 times in Flower.
Drip clean is to keep salt build up from happening. I use Blumats and Smart Pots, never any run off with the Blumats. Drip clean makes it so salt build up does not lock anything out. I hand water to run off when using Kool Bloom to ensure it is not too strong. Then the last 10 days I shut off my drippers and hand water to Run off everyday.

Blumats and Smart Pots will blow your mind compared to hand watering and regular pots. I can grow huge plants in 1 gal Smart Pots, no way on earth they would get nearly as big in a regular pot. Never get root bound, so they just keep growing. Next time you have 70 bucks, buy the Tropf Blumat Patio and Deck kit...you will thank me later! Peace.

You in coco? salt build-up won't occur unless you let your medium dry out.

yep will do. need to setup an automatic system so I can go on vacation!

Pure Canna Coco. Salts can build up in your lines, so drip clean helps that and if you never water to run off...salts build up. Using drippers the Coco just stays damp. When you hand water, when you water to run off...it flushes the salt build up away. Smart Pots show salt build up. The drip clean does not make it magically disappear...it just ensures that it will never harm your plants. Is drip clean necessary? No, but it is cheap and prevents it from being a factor.
