Need help

I've been looking at pictures of male and female plant distinctions, but damned if I can figure it out.

It has balls, but they grow into leaves, and the newest ones are growing into what look like buds.

The camera is broken or I'd post a pic.

Do females grow balls that turn into buds?

Any help is really appreciated.

I think your mistaking the calyx for a male flower bud

The top, where its supposed to bud looks like the ballls. A lot of them
