Need help with an RO unit

I have talked to WECO now and the float switch they have is this https://www.wecofilters.com/hlfv4.html

which doesn't look like it would fit into a standard 5 gallon jug snout (its got a bottleneck)

that switch is cool though and i wonder if i could modify it and a cap the 5 gallon jug comes with to make a vertical float switch instead of needing to drill a hole or something for this one.

The other option is adding the second holding tank but then i need to wait until it fills my jug up.. Its so much faster pouring into my watering can from a 5 gallon jug than the little 1/4" line.

Off the filter you can put a tee or splitter fitting, then run it to the tank and put a float valve in the top side of the tank. Then put a dump valve on the bottom side.. Walla.

I use 1 inch dump valves thru a 1 inch grommet. 3/4 was too slow and 1/2 would be retarded slow.
 
Also put a shutoff valve before the float if you wanna mix nutrients in the barrel. When it's full you can shut off the water to the float, add nutes, and when used up always make sure you close the dump valve before you liven up the float lol.
 

I don't think i could get those to work with these jugs though right? I was hoping to use these because I have a ton of them

those float valves look like they're meant to be installed horizontally and not sure if they'll fit in the snout of these bottles

I dont have room for a nutrient barrel I am looking for a way to dump 5 gallons off my RO unit overnight into a bottle then use the bottle when needed

my grow is using 2.5-5 gallons every day or so
 
I set my barrels on cinder blocks and use a rolling 5 gallon bucket dolly to slide up and dump into, then I sit on my mechanics stool and roll it over to water plants
 
I was thinking another way of using a 24v solenoid to a traditional float switch. I can get those easy from work from a humidifier.
Just was hoping to find something simple and easy that i can pop in the top of my 5 gallon jugs
 
My only issue is remember to go back and turn the water off when the jug is full..... Stealth RO 300 from ebay took my tapwater down to a much more reasonable PPM number, I'll just monitor for the filters to need changing and probably upgrade after I get a first run done.


If I were you I'd just grab some spare 5 gallon jugs for cheap ;).

Just slap on a DI cartridge at the end of the line and you will have your 0ppm

A good membrane and prefilters should get you sub 5 PPM. There are some cheap ass membranes out there from China and those suck ass. I use Axeon brand membranes.

A bit pricey but this looks interesting for a solenoid "float" combo. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/ro-di-flood-guardian-xp-aqua.html

It uses an optical sensor to detect water level drops and triggers the solenoid, it can also be delayed up to 7 days (If the delay was accurate to the hour it would be worth the money IMO). I much prefer low tech if you can achieve the same result, the optical sensor may be a bit sketch as it could possibly be affected by salt build up over time if used in a res. Pretty cool regardless, and could fit your size limit on the float.
