Hey peeps, this is my second grow. with a new 400w duel light. probs im having is maintaining good temps wen i shut the door as it gets dark at night. its getting over 100degrees in there and i don't want it to ruin my crop.ive got an intake and an extraction at the top.its a squirrel cage fan so powerfull enough to do the job, i've got a bathroom fan at the bottom suckin new air in. i don't know how to overcome this problem without spendin loads of money on an air cooler. also where the temp is so high the humidity is like 20% and my plants are only young so it needs to be alot higher. if i raise the humidity with a humidifier will the temp drop? i hoping my hydrometer isn't fcuked. it was only a cheepy one.

Please help me on the matter.its my second grow and wanna get it right after buying a new light to get better results..

try leaving the door open during daylight hours. your neigbours wont see the light coming out. it looks like its in a nice little corner anyway. where do you live? im from the uk and my grow room only gets up to about 26-28 degrese c my humidity is 50%.

If the room has a window you can do what I did. Find a fan some black plastic, and some appropriate sized ducting at home depot or the likes. Staple or nail the plastic over the windows so no light gets through. then cut a hole for the ducting to attach to and use zip ties to attach the ducting to the black plastic. You don't have to use the exact materials I listed, but it is what I used(except the plastic, I used a towel). Here are some pics of my setup.

make sure that your lights off period is during the hottest part of the day, ie. 12pm - 6pm. also, plants can sustain higher temperatures if you provide them with some sort of c02 dispener.. there are many methods varying in expense and effectiveness. the cheapest option is probably the water/yeast/sugar method...
if you want to increase humidity, place a bowl of water on the floor, it will evaporate into your room providing a more humid atmosphere...

(as an extra thought, instead of using water for humidity, use a shit load of ice in a bowl. it will evaporate and may even keep things a bit cooler... who knows!).

thats a good idea bout the ice but its gonna be a long few months puttin ice in every day. i would swap the times but feel more at ease with them on during the day as in my area we have lots of planes going about late at night.during the day i havn't a probem with the temp, its between 70-80. my squirrel fan is really powerful and thought it would do the job but somethings wrong and its buggin me.

also there isn't alot of room around the edge of my shade between this and the cuboard i made. i got a small fan at the bottom for the plants but how do i help air rise to the top to be extracted? i can post more pics tomorrow. my set up isn't air tight. just a woodwork frame lined outside with the white plastic stuff and inside with the mylar!

You don't have to worry about getting the air to rise out of the exhaust since heat always rises.

if your lights are on during the day and you dont have a problem with the temp during the day, then when do you have a problem with the temps? at night with lights off?!

so are you having problems with the temperatures during the night when the lights are off? i dont get it..

if youre on an 18/6 cycle, you could put them on at 4.30am, and turn off at 10.30pm... that way noones going to really notice them being on, not with the long summer days...

In my area dry ice can be found at most grocrey stores and a buddy of mine swears by it. He cuts a pice off and drops it in a bowl with alittle water and puts it by his plants in his grow box.."BAMM instent co2"

When my plants were young I only used fluoros becuase of having a potential heat problem. When they got older I put in a 600 W. My cab stays between 95 and 97 degrees with the 600W but my fan is between the light and the plants. So far no problems. As was mentioned above, I considered running duct from an ac vent to my intake but so far I think its going to be ok.

wat exactly is dry ice and how do u use it in a space? just normal ice out the freezer or similar?. got to be a pain freezing water every nite and putin it in the grow space every day surely? how much of a temp drop is there say with a kilo of ice?

Here's my two cents- it seems as though your major source of heat is your 400w dual ballast instead of spending your time trying to cool the room down- you may want to focus on the light itself (heat source), are you using a ventiliated hood? if so do you have a glass heat cover installed? in my experiences the only way to control the heat generated from a MH or HPS is by using a hood, a glass heat cover and to provide an exhaust directly from the hood out of the room, it you can't afford an exhaust fan then do not use the glass heat cover- you will find it raises your temperature more-

Is that your only fan up there. If it is try to move it so its blowin directly under your light, but still hitting the top of your plant. If you can leave the door open even a little, have it blowing towards the opening. I have the same problem with my closet and moved the fan so it did this. I still have to leave it open about a quarter, but it helped.

basicly i drape a dark blanket over the front of the tent i made wen it gets dark outside.it just gets so hot and dry behind this.. i ain't bothered using the squirrel cage fan anymore as its not doing much.
