I'll bet you can find a fairly cheap 36" x 18" T5 setup on ebay or amazon. That's probably your best bet.

One other thing. With T5s you should try a SCROG setup to maximize the yield. You use 4 plants and get a quarter oz.

Quarter oz for 4 plants?... isn't that a bit shitty really? I haven't used T5's so can't judge but always thought about getting some.

You will do better than a quarter oz from a 36 x 18 scrog and some nice T5s. I'd bet if you did it right you could pull over an oz from that easy.

Save your self the time and money and just go HPS now. Get a little 150 watt florolux (like $75) or a 250 watt hps from HTGsupply.com and maybe the T5's for side lighting if you really wanted to. You could use a $20 duct booster fan for exhaust if you can't pony up the cash for a inline and carbon filter.

No matter what you decide to go with you are gonna have to deal with the heat in a small box like that. I would go with a small HPS with a cooled reflector.

I don't know about the lights in that fixture I gave you, I really didn't look. I just know you can get a 36" T5 fixture.

T5s don't put off much heat at all, sure they get warm but not hot. You stick any HPS in there and you are going to need to think about big ventilation (compared to the T5)

I run a T5 and a 400MH for Veg. My 2ft. T5 4 bulb 6500k fixture works just as well as the 400 for Veg but the T5 doesn't cover as much area because you need to place them fairly close. But this is a good thing come flower time, you will have more vertical space available with a T5 fixture. Bulbs are cheap and they last a long time.

I have to disagree. I have done many T5 grows and they get quite warm in a small space and you will need to vent. That is why I reccomended the HPS because either way you will need to exhaust the hot air and the efficiency of an HID is far superior to a T5.

Either way brother, I am sure he will be fine. Probably easier with the HPS for sure. Just giving the brother some options.
