First 4 pictures show what im most concerned about. not sure what the problem is, please help. started 12/12 last week and now this starts happening.

the last picture is what the leaf in the first picture looked like a few days ago.

i did give some miracle grow for a few waterings as i was led to believe there was a k deficiency beforehand, but i think that might be whats causing the problem.

is there anything i can do to fix this?

on a good note, the leaves of one plant used to be a lot yellower in general and are turning a richer green.

miracle grow moisture control + 30% perlite ~20-10-10. watering with water around 100ppm about every other day. about a week ago when i went into 12/12 i had put in some miracle grow fert which is around 9-7-7 if i remember correctly.

both plants are exhibiting the same symptoms ie shriveling leaves at the base up. the upper leaves are looking good and quite healthy, although many of the stems on older leaves are purple while newer stems and the upper area of the main stem is green. there are purple stripes going up the main stem and some of the node branches which you can kinda see in some of the pictures.

i was thinking it was some kind of deficiency, but not really sure so i put some more miracle grow mixed with water in the left plant which was showing the symptoms first.

what soil/bloom fert would you recommend?

I would try and stay away from the MG products, although many people use them with success. Try and use an organic soil and organic one part bloom fertilizer. I use soil called MJR Organics mixed with perlite, and Age Old Organics fertilizer, it's $15/quart at my local hydro store.

There are so many brands and types of nutrients that you basically just find what works for you.

You have I think a Sulphur issue. Lower the pH (presumably too high) or add sulphur.

ill do a ph test soon as i can, is there any kind of at home test i could do to get a rough idea?

ok, im probably going to go for a balanced organic soil next grow like 20-20-20, but im very curious as to why there's no all inclusive soil in existence.. ie soil that stabilizes ph AND has proper aeration as well as a stable balance of all the necessary nutrients. were at a point in technology that this is completely viable, its just that no one seems to be developing it for commercial use.

Good soil should be full of goodness but the ph will affect it and is it vital that you get it right when watering. You need to get a tester and water about 6.5 ph. You need to test the water each time and after you add any additives to it. I would seriously recommend a pen type digital ph meter.

thinking about getting this, http://htgsupply.com/viewnutrient.asp?nutrientID=4989173.

Mix 0.5 grams per Litre (1 tsp per 14 quarts) into your nutrient solution. This will increase solution ppm by approximately 300 ppm. 0-17-38 0-17-38

Note: 1 Tsp = 7 grams Guaranteed Analysis Available

Phosphate (P2Os) ............ 17%
Soluble Potash (K2O) ....................... 38%
Combined Sulfur ............................... 0.9%
Derived From: Potassium Phosphate. Potassium Sulphate.

ill work on getting a digital ph meter also, any recommendations on those?

Everytime I used miracle grow the Ph would vary greatly from bag to bag and I always seem to get lock outs even with close Ph/nute monitoring Switched to Fox farm ocean forrest and have never been more happy.

Suggestions:
Check your run off and find if there is a lockout in the soils PH

If everything checks out with the soil, It appears to be starved of Nitrogen. A good nuting would green them back up in no time

Good luck

im like 80% sure its phosphorus deficiency that is causing the problem. lower leaves and some upper older leaves are first getting some necrotic spots and then yellowing completely and then shriveling up and turning brown and crispy. ive put in some more miracle grow nute 8-7-6 and going to get some better bloom nutes tomorrow, but what im still worried about is if maybe it is locked out like you said.

is there a way to tell if its locked out without a ph tester and also isnt there something i can get that will help set the ph?

Not this? http://cannabis-spain.com/images/sulphur3.jpg

As some have said, miracle grow causes issues for a lot of people :-(

If you have ph issues, it is more likeley to be on the high side, you buy ph down solution bought from any grow place to set the ph (or ph up for the opposite) You can use household products but this is quite cheap and works well.

Personally I use a consistant size watering can/vessel and then I use a syringe to measure how many mls to take it to 6.5 for example. For me here, 1ml takes 8litres of water down 2 points. didnt know that did ya? :-D

got a ph tester and a ph solution kit and both are pretty consistent around 6.4. also got a starter kit containing all the nutes i will need and a chart for which ones to give it when.

implemented this in a drip system so hopefully in the next few days things will get better. in the mean time i foiler fed the plants some miracle grow.

hmm interesting note. about how much water every other day should they be getting? right now the drip system gives 20oz and 16oz respectively for my 5 gal and 3 gal per day. its timed to give half the total per day for each of two 12 minute intervals.

im not really sure what i am looking at in that picture.

this is a pretty close example to what is happening to mine.

My plants with nitrogen def have looked identical to that pic... deficiencies can be a bitch.

hm ok well the whole bundle nutes i put in there should fix whatever the problem is.

thanks for the help, ill post pics.

side note, the rest of the plant is green and very healthily budding, just maybe 2-4 leaves at a time near the base are getting spots, yellowing, and eventually crinkling into nothing.

Hmm, sorry then. Originally I thought I saw a Sulphur issue here? Purple stems, fading from outside in...

no worries, for all i know it could be. a few of the smaller leaves at the far bottom were turning white, but i figured that was just because no light was getting there.

The same thing happened to me. During flower, a few fan leaves would yellow and die at a time. Soon there was more and more, and really light colored small leaves at the bottom of the canopy. I figured it was just the plants using stored nutrients to flower, but next time I want to feed better and try to avoid that. My buds came out fine, but I probably would have had more yield with healthier plants.

Here's a pic of harvest time to give you an idea of the yellowing:

thanks, good to know. yeah i began nuting it up and the entire upper leaves of the plant are healthily budding. hopefully the added nutes are going to help slow and elimate the problem ill post pics when i can see any changes.

and yeah thats about how mine look at the base. i know to expect nute draining in leaves as the budding progresses like you said, and ive got plenty of nice healthy budding spots popping up.
