Need help from the Pros

Hey I'm a new grower and I need some tips from the pros on here. This is a great site prolly be around here a while. But this is my first post. I've got an assortment of seeds I've acquired over time. I don't even know what seed came from what plant anymore. Anyways. I've taken about 10 seeds and have started germinating them. I'm not sure where to plant them yet. I have two options.

One option is planting in my house. I have a large crawl space inside the wall with insulation. The other option is growing outside. I have about 20 acres of land and I live in North side east coast USA. I want to plant a few plants for my personal use.

I have actually planted some seeds in the insulation without germinating them so its prolly not gonna work but they've been in there a week or so with no sign of life. I have an aquarium tank with miracle grow potting soil with 2 lamps on it. One lamp has two 25w red aquarium tubular bulbs and the other is a regular 80 or 100 watt bulb. I water the 10 or so seeds I've planted with a quart of water a couple times a day.

I need to know if indoor or outdoor would be better with the equippment I have. What equippment I would need to plant indoor. And if the seeds I've planted now have a chance.

Thx :peace:

aaahhhhhh!!!!!! start over. outdoor is to late. indoor you need a restart. kill those lights. get some shop lights if anything. kill that aquarium. you need pots with drainage. are you growing IN the insulation? what's wrong with soil? read "grow faqs" top left of your screen.

Are you telling me you haven't tried Sensi's Asbestos X Jack Herer? A cerebral high to die for my friend.

Ok I'm gonna start fresh. I've started germinating some seeds. I've dumped the current and ill prepared project in the garbage and have gotten some pots. The planting area is in the second story behind drywall. There are boards in there so I can place the pot, after I germinate and plant the seeds, off the insulation but the area is all insulated. You said the pots need drainage but I can't have water going through the ceiling. Would watering them over a sink and then placing it back work or watering them with something like a baking pan under the pots work? I read up before posting on lighting but don't know where to acquire such lighting. Can something like that be bought at a hardware store? And how many lights do I need for 3 or 4 plants?

Well you need drainage to avoid getting root rot. Can't you just put down a plastic tarp of some sort? You can get HPS floodlights from Home Depot, but you can get reasonably priced HID systems from High Tech Garden Supply. How big of a grow area do you have?

I did some digging in the garage before I made a trip to the garden store. I found a couple shop lights like fdd2blk said. They are kinda small but they will get me started. I also took pictures of the growing area caused people asked.

Lights I have 2 of these has a 50W in it.

Also I'm planning on building a growing box area big enough to fit at most 10 plants but prolly 5 since half will turn out female. I'll buy bulbs and a small fan for ventilation. But in the mean time will putting the germinated seeds into a 2 liter bottle cut in half with holes for drainage and potting soil work until I get it built?

Your gonna cover that insulation right? Just get some plywood. And don't eat too much that entrance looks small, but stealthy. Good luck

Welcome to the forum. No wonder I was confused. You said crawl space. While this 'knee wall' area may make you crawl, 'crawl space' is a term for a house without a full basement. The knee wall area you are talking about using is not a good choice. You are right, there is insulation there, but its not going to help the area you are planning on growing in. Its there to keep the hot air out of the house in summer and the warm air in the house in winter. Ever venture into that area when its 90 degrees outside? kinda like an oven? How about when its 30 degrees out? kinda lika refrigerator? If you can't have water dripping thru the ceiling, what about your leg going thru while your tending your plants? Of course you could put plywood on the top of the ceiling joist and insulate the bottom of the roof rafters, kinda block off some ends to isolate the space your using, install a heavy duty HVAC system to handle the heat provided by the sun baking down on the roof, 12" pipe for the exhaust system should be good. Now crawl in there and tend the plants. How tall will the pots the plants are in be using soil? room for lights?
Get the picture? VV

Good point. I could put up plywood and block any vents to outside. Alos I've been looking around and I'm thinking some sort of grow box is my best option. I was looking at the forums and I saw a guy named JethroTull made a grow box outta 2 rubbermaid bins. So I figured I'd do something like that. I didn't have any rubbermaids laying around I used to recycle bins. I haven't finished it yet but the plan is the hold em together with bathroom calk. Put some compact fluorescent lights in the top, cut a couple holes for 2 small fans, one blowing in the other out, and cover the inside with aluminum foil. I'm hoping this will isloate the plants from the outside and give them a confortable growing area. I also coule put up some plywood and isolate a smaller area and cover the ventilation to outside if necessary. Will this work?

Good Point. I think the solution is to isolate a smaller growing area with plywood and cover the outside vents like you said and put in a growth box. I saw someone make a grow box out of 2 rubbermaid bins. I don't have any laying around so I figured using to recycle bins. I can hold em together with bathroom calk and cut a whole in it for some compact flourescent lights. Also 2 small fans for ventilation. One near the bottom going in and the other near the top going out. Also plan on putting aluminum foil inside or painting it flat white. Will this work?
