Need help First DWC

so than use baking soda and vinegar and dont complain when the plants react negatively. the price difference is negligble considering the time and effort and money put into the grow. you will see.

have you read my tag line? file for your unemployment money-can do online. baking soda is ok but watch the vinegar-a little at a time. but how will you know what your ph is if you cant test it?

already filed for my UC anyhow i picked up ph test kit at local pool store. so does baking soda take ph up or down?

not sayin i am not sayin im not but if baking soda can save me a couple of bucks and it works then ill save a couple bucks

If you are going to be a GROWER, then get the right equipment and the correct supplies and tools that you need to be a GROWER. If you want what someone else has or does, then do what they did to get it.
You have to have some way to measure the pH, whether it be piss strips, or pool water pH testing or Aquaium Water pH testing or Hydro pH testing. A good pH meter is $59, Strips are anywhere from $4.99 to $19.99 depending on whether you get a complete kit or not.
Before you add vinegar or baking soda to adjsut it, you need to know if you need to go UP or DOWN and how much.
Do you want a great yield from big beautiful helathy plants, or do you just want to try and grow a plant that lives and makes a few buds?

SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO WHAT SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO.

read the heading roseman its first dwc so yea a plant that lives and produces a few buds is good for me untill i get this whole process down not looking for max yield on my fist grow. im just looking to see the different problems ill have using this set up and to get a few buds but im not looking for much right now.

I hear man good for you. We all have to start out somewhere it's my first real hydro grow. Real first grow . I had problems learned how to fix them and then I rlized it's not as complicated as I thought just make sure is evything is ok and let the plants do thier thing. It's addicting because you will want the best for your plants

new pics after the ph adjustment. looking so much better thanks all.

What is your temp in your res? The roots looked alittle brown and do you have a hose running in to the cup pouring water through the cup? So you have a stone in the bottom of the res? Plants look good.

the roots get brown in the space between to bottom of the pot and the top of the water b/c the temp in there gets a little high due to the fact its in a closet with the heater pipes running under it but the water temp stays fairly cool. i have a feeder hose running to the center of the root ball dumping water straight into the roots. yes i have 2 stone disks in the bottom of the res

you can spray those roots with a mixture of h202 and water add some straight ot your res that will help with the browing. If it keps up it will hinder your grow. That brown slime will get on your bubblers in the bottom of the tank also if you don't add h202. Just my experience.

Baking Soda is UP and Vinegar is down, but there is a trick that DWC and HYDRO growers use to stabalize a pH that won't level out, it's called Buffering.
You empty the tank, and add water with baking soda in it. That will UP your water to about 8.0, way too high. But THEN immediatly drain it as fast as you can. Then adjust your water, outside of the tank, to 5.6 to 5.9 . Add your nutes and adjust it again, trying to get it to 5.8 or 5.9 OUSIDE of the tank. Then add it your tank. Then test it and withdraw one gallon and add one gallon back, adjsuted to change the water in the tank.
To do this, you will have to have a pH test kit, whether you use a urine test kit, a swimming pool test kit, or an aquarium water test kit. These test kits can be bought for $5.00.
Good Luck, bro,

If you gogle Baking Soda, you will find:
What is the deal with ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda and pH?
  • As we mentioned, baking soda helps regulate pH—keeping a substance neither too acidic (sour tasting), nor too alkaline. Think of pH as a see-saw, with acidic pH tilting one way, alkaline pH tilting the other way, and neutral pH when the see-saw is level. When ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda comes in contact with either an acidic or an alkaline substance, it's natural effect is to neutralize that extreme pH - tilting the see- saw back toward level. And beyond that, baking soda has the capability to resist further changes in the pH balance - keep the see-saw level--this is called buffering.

that was going to be my next question because now i have a brown slime in my res . h2o2 is hydrogen peroxide right? so how much would i add to a 20 gallon res?
