Need help asap! Everything keeps dying within 5 days, don't know what I'm doing wrong

I've taken a special interest in your case, Jimmy. Yes, the water quality is the only variable you need to eliminate. Repeat everything you did before only this time use ph'd distilled water for the entire operation. Let us know what happens.

Don't give up man! I have had some serious issues and I always take what I learned and move forward. I am having way better results just getting out of rockwool and going to coco. I enjoyed DWC and aero but this is the best I've seen yet. Don't get discouraged. There are lots of nice people here that can help. Just get away from the rockwool altogether if you can. I used to start seeds right in hydroton in DWC and they always came up. Just put them about 1/2 inch fro the water level in the bucket where the hydroton was damp. Not the right way to do shit but it worked when I was getting going! Always keep your otions open. I have gone from DWC/aero to rockwool top drip to coco top drip and next an organic coco grow hand watered.

Big question is, should i bother to try and revive the last two? i mean even though the roots are really skinny, the blue himalayan has one root starting out the bottom and i stuck a little kangaroots in some distilled water put some one the cube and did the same to the other one, i mean realistically what are the odds that I could even save them if the problems are what is stated above? maybe lack of water or bad water, it hasnt fallen completely over just super skinny stem. ive grown better and healthier bag seeds with these methods than these top dollar brand name strains. so sad, wasted ounces is how im looking at it.

I will definitely let you guys know what happens and im not quite ready to give up yet and am trying really hard to stay positive even after these mishaps, i mean i didnt expect i would be a botanist or something instantly but with the amount of research ive done for years and even a few small tests i did back in high school, was NOT expecting this. I mean i would really like to use the other ideas but im kinda stuck because rockwool is all i have to work with and i cant afford to dish out anymore money on equipment or anything, and yes i do have a humidity dome and what have you as i knew it would be essential and was very cheap. but unfortunately i just have to hope that this rockwool starts to work out somehow and that all of ur helpful suggestions can fix these problems. it really could be the water and would be a miracle if that was the only issue!! fingers crossed

It could also be that these more expensive premium seeds are more sensitive than the hardier bag seeds you grew in the past.

that is a great point and i didnt look at it that way. i guess i was just hoping that paying premium dollar would lead to plants that were just higher quality in all aspects. thats a relative point though being i had no idea what the other strains were. I thought autos were super easy going though with minimal problems, prime for beginners if you will. so i guess we shall see lol

Rockwool is fine. Just take a deep breath and try again. I can't tell you how many times I got all hot-and-bothered because of this failure or that... But nothing feels better than finally getting it right. You'll get there.

You've done studying and testing on your own... that's good. I'm sure this is just a minor bump in the road.

just place the seeds sideways ontop of the 1 inch wet rockwool cubes
push them slightly so they are in contact with the rockwool
put them in a propagator in a dark warm place for 3 days .. the tap root will come out , place the seed inside the cube tap root down, and put them under a light .. you shouldn't have any issues with germinating seeds with rockwool m8, its very simple

I'm sure you can germinate well in rockwool but I can't for the reasons given above. I think the biggest problem I had was judging when they were dry or moist. I probably could figure it out if I stuck with it, but I found an alternative that is easy for me.

That's the thing to remember. Find what works for you. Conditions are different in every grow space and the grower's judgement of what is wet/moist/dry is subjective.

IIRC the Emily's Garden thing is a mist or bubble propogator. That ought to work well. Oxygen always helps.

I killed a lot of seedlings from expensive seeds while learning how to do this. It sux but that's what happens when you work by yourself.

See now thats what i cant wait for, looking really healthy and solid. what strain is that outta curiosity? yea this probably is just a speed bump just a pretty frustrating one, but you are definitely right, i CANNOT wait for the finished result and being able to say, huh whats this shit im puffing on? oh yea i grew this shit and then LOL.

This guy was a runt 10 days ago in a 4x4 rockwool cube. I took a chance and cut it down to 2x2, popped it in a 50/50 coco/hydroton mix and 10 days later- viola. A healthy little bastard like that. Like I said keep your options open

I totally agree, i think im just having trouble deciding when there isnt enough water or when theres too much, also the quality of the water has to be changed to rule that out. I have all the right tools, its kinda like painting, just because you have the brushes and the paint doesnt mean you can make a masterpiece you have to build and learn and i guess thats the stage im going through. i really wanna lock down this rockwool growing though, i hate things i dont understand and always like a challenge. and to the comment above this one if it was just as simple as dropping it in.... i wouldnt be having this problem.. theres obviously other factors at play here, not just that simple of a solution or i wouldnt post, i would just read it in a different thread.

you can tell by the weight of the cube how much water is in it with some practice , or just give it a light squeeze you will see the moisture come to the surface

When you said place the seed down in the rockwool im not sure what you meant. So the tap root pops out, and usually starts to curve. You want the end of the tap root going down into the rockwool, then if you follow the tap root, it curls up then back down again which leads to the seed shell. Basically its a upside down U. Hope this helps.

I know how frustating rw can be, I need to flush/soak a long time at 5.0ph to use it. I really think just putting the seed in hydroton or gravel is alot easier and more fool proof, Here's some pics of just putting a sprouted seed in pea gravel and letting it go.

Very interesting I actually didnt know that, you learn something new every day. See most of my seeds actually didnt have a curl to the initial root, not sure if thats uncommon but 3/4 didnt, 1 did however, but i just put it in the hole with the root down and the curl coming upwards. Hopefully that was correct, i did however read a forum though that was discussing how to put it in and the basic point of the forum is that its experienced based and that people even put them in sideways and seem to think that works just as well. Also, so do you recommend that i soak the ph at 5.0 when im soaking the rw? like just keep soaking it for a few days to rinse out whatever may be in or on it? also at what point do i start putting nutes in the water with auto's? like 2 weeks i was thinking... correct me if im wrong im not sure if u can mix the nutes in a gallon of ph'ed water and pour that lightly on them? i plan to switch to the emilys garden when they are about 3 inches tall and use the wicks i just picked up (you just stick those into the reservoir with the two loose ends and fix it into the lava rock/potting rock so that it is sitting 3 inches above the water and have the rockwool resting on top right lol im really sorry for all the stupid questions but since i am an absolute beginner i just need very detail oriented guidance, almost as though you are speaking to a 4th grader about growing, i mean yes ive researched but research and doing are two COMPLETELY different things and some things are very vague in detail . and last question for the moment and sort've a statement in the mix, my seedlings turn blackish after they somewhat die, could that be from something specific or is that just typical death? thanks guys toke back and dream sweet tonight!!

I just put the rockwool cubes in 5.8 ph water and im going to let them soak for 24 hours while my little girls germinate now. i put about 1/16 teaspoon of kangaroots into the water to immediately stimulate root growth as soon as they are dropped in, i moved the light down to three inches from the top of one of the ones i think i might be able to save, its turning a little greener and standing up a little better so fingers are still crossed, i water that one with a light dose of kangaroots as well and i think that had a positive effect which is why i chose to add just a tiny tiny dose to the water that is soaking my rockwool, if anyone thinks that this is a mistake lemme know cause i still have about 20 hours to flush it out with some other fresh good ph'ed water, but from what it seems like its not gonna cause a problem. I think im getting the hang of this now a little more and i can feel success knocking! thanks for any advice in advance.
