so i have a five sq foot grow space should i use a 600 w or would 400 w be enough?
and if i got like a cool tube enclosed refleter with a 6 inch inline fan sucking air into the refletor and a 6 inch inline fan sucking out the other side would that be enought to cool that 5 squre foot spot down?

and whats better digital or standerd ballast ?

just want tomake sure i can keep it cool in there befor i buy it and make sure i buy ythe right ballaset and reflecto so anyone?

A 600 watt in a 5x5 is only 26 watts per square foot.

You need 1000 watt to get 43 and that is still kinda low. People say to shoot for 50 minimum.

If you are worried about temp you will need the cool tube as an enclosed system and a separate exhaust fan on a thermostat.

so if i hooked up ducting to a 6 in fan to my cootube to anther fan so one is suckin into the tube and one is sucking out that should be enough?

hey, im new to this site. This is my first post actually.
But to give you first hand advice go with whatever you want!!!
Im running a 1kHPS 400HPS and a 250 MH in the same size closet ( actually i only have 5' of height) you can keep the temps around 79-81 with 3 cheap fans.
Ill try to post a pic of mine so you can see.
as far as heat/sound the difference is minimal.

wow we probare usins same thing lol ya i got 5 feet of hiegth in lower half and 3 feeton upper half i would really like to see apic of your setup

I would recommend a switchable 600 watt digital setup.
Use the new 7200k mh bulbs for vegging and then switch to a grolux dual spectrum bulb for flowering.
Best of luck:peace::joint:

The digital ballast is worth the money. They put out a little more light and less heat and you can use MH or HPS bulbs. Lumatek has the same warranty as SunSystems and Hydrofarm magnetic ballast. A 400w should be plenty in that space. A 600w could cause heat issues but those cooltubes work great. More light is allways better but too much heat and plants dont grow!

okay so ill prob go with a 400 watt 2 start digital and the cooltube im probally gunna get the cheaper inline fans that run 250 cfm and bye to for 50 bucks instead of the can fan for 150 tho

You won't get any better growth in that small space from a 600 than you would a 400. In fact neither may be better than what you'd get from two 150's since your space is just so so tiny.

600w is good for up to 16 sq feet or so, 400w is good for up to 12 or so, and you're only running 5. I would only suggest the 600 if you plan to go to a bigger grow later, and I bet there'd be very little difference if any between two 150w hps's and one 400 in that space.

More light is better, but there's a point of diminishing returns and I'd say 400 or more over just 5sf is beyond that point. You're talking about a grow space barely larger than most hoods!!!

Digital vs magnetic is a personal preference type of thing. Mag ballasts ALWAYS last longer period and are far cheaper, but yes digitals have their advantages too.

I'll buy digital ballasts when they're even more reliable and cheaper, but not until then.

okay so i just went and looked and a 150 watt is good foe 9 squre ft so ya that would be plenty but can any one else tell me if thats true that i wouldnt notice a difference from a 150 than a 400 would do in that space? just seem like a 400 w would obviosly have much better growth then a 150 watt no matter what the space but i am new to this so....

oh sorry okay gotch ya my mistake read to fast i dont think i would have enough room for too 150 watt hoods so im prob gunna go buy a 400 w digital thank u orgon

for that size space a 400 will work fine but if you wanna take it to the max go with a 600, honestly a 1000 in that space is overkill
