Dont place them close to the roots just to have them close to the roots. If you mean, thats where they are goin to be, in order to get light UNDER the canopy, ya should be fine, just mind yer temps, make sure they arent in clear containers, and point the light UP, towards the plants.i know that the hps system is probbably better but then again this is my first grow ever so i want to start small... i want to go all cfl's for my 6 white widow plants.. i will be getting my own house in septemeber so ill most likely get an hps system by then.. but for right now i want to go all cfl's... i just want some input on my idea... here is wat i got so far... ok so my space is 8 feet tall 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep... i will be growing 6 plants at a time... i will be using my closet for both vegging and flowering.. my walls are all white so that is a plus!.. i will have a little fan giving air throughout vegging and flowering... i will be leaving the closet door open during the day while they are reciving light... so more fresh air can go inside the closet... but when the plants need their sleep i will be closing the door shut and making sure no light disturbs their sleepy time... wat do u guys think of this?? oh yeah and the question i still have is "how many cfl's do i need??? of how many watts??? and how many cool white and warm white lights??? cause i am trying to use all the same lights for both vegging and flowering... i also think that i will be placing some cfls between the plants close to their roots,,, do u guys think this is a good idea?? thanks for ur answers!!!
As far as how many and what kind. . .I would suggest about 12 over them for yer veg, and up it to 20 strategically placed throughout fer flower. Seeing how you want to use the same lights for both, a lot of ppl will tell you not to do this, but look @ MY grow! Use the 23W CFL's. They are 2700Kelvins, w/1600Lumens. They are PERFECT fer both, or else you have to use two separate types fer veg and flower.
