Hi Eddie,

Heres my opinion :-) To answer your questions:-

You plan to grow 5 WW's ? Well in that space you could start the 5 in the hope of selecting the best maybe 3 females (if lucky) to flower (I'm assuming they are not fem seeds inwhich case I'd just start the 3). Its not so much height you lack, once the canopy fills out you will struggle to penetrate it, especially IF you go with CFL's.

As this is the CFL growers section I'll suggest you go with the CFL's! If its done properly CFL's can and do produce the goods, most of those who tell you otherwise around the forums have never actually persevered with them themselves and learned the art of CFL growing (in my opinion).

Look into training to get your budsights as even as possible (you may care to see the pics in my thread below).

For 3 plants in that space I'd suggest around 300+ watts of CFL's mainly the 2700's but you can add a couple of the 'daylight' blues to balance the spectrum. As said below the 2700k's will veg just fine! Just balance the spectrum a little with the "blues" 6400k's. One thing, dont bother with the "150watt equivalent" rating! You need actuall CFL wattage, so those are 42watts each you will need a good 7 or 8 to get anything decent in the way of yield.

I find that its not hard to cool a space with 350watts of CFL's a 'bathroom' exhaust fan will easily handle that and two of them, one pushing one pulling the air will do the job nicely and cheaply. 'Ruck' type fan even better of course :-)

I have 300 watts of 2700's plus 50 watts of blue and use them for both vegging and flowering.

Hope this helps in some way, I like to remind people that back in the Seventies we all grew with flouros!!!:bigjoint:

I would put in as many CFLs as you can fit. Or, you could get a 150 HPS and supplement with a few CFLs if you're willing to dish out some money to ventilate well.

:lol::lol:You wud suggest 300W of CFL's fer 3 plants, huh?:lol::lol: Now, are those actual watts or the equivalent? I have 460W of CFL's fer 8 plants. Answer my question and I will tell ya my equivalent watts.
BTW, I still like yer post fer the most part, so +Rep

What I suggested was 300+ watts for 3 plants, actual CFL wattage of course :-) I dont even think about "equivalent" wattage! I find around the 350 watt CFL mark in a tight cabinet with good reflective sheeting and airflow to be pretty workable. I currently have 350 "actual" CFL watts over my 2 plants in mid flowering (see my thread below).

Lets put it this way, I've been growing and experimenting for over 20 years. CFL's offer a good alternative to HPS if used correctly BUT as with so much in this hobby there are very few hard and fast rules, its much more down to growers skills and understanding of the plants needs than the amount of light you whack over them!

We live and learn my friend :-) I dont even have a single bottle of nutrient or additive/booster in my house, I simply feed my plants what I pick off the beach at low tide....seaweed/kelp/shellfish etc plus carbos in the form of unrefined sugars and I'm very happy with my results. At the end of the day its about what works for YOU :-)

'Where in the hell am I'.......'What the hell are you on about!'...... :?..... take it easy, I'm not here to tell people how to grow, I'll leave that to you as you are obviously the Oracle of all things growing :-)

I was merely replying to a PM sent by the creator of this thread inwhich he asked for my opinions so I gave them.

I'm in my fifties and been doing this for a very long time, I just like to grow in the way that suits me.

Hey everyone thanks,, for all ur answers!!! But in the last 2 days I decided that since this is my first grow I am going cfl's all the way!! My closet is 8feet tall 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep... I want to use my closet for both vegging and flowering,,, the walls in my closet are all white so I heard that's gonna help,,, I will be placing a fan in the closet to keep air moving around,,,, now the question I have is wat kind of cfl's should I use and how many??? At the moment I have 4 42watt=150 watt.... And I also have 5 26watt=50watt cfl's... So the question is how many cfl's do I need?? And wat kind?? And also were shud I put them ?? Remeber I'm trying to grow 5 plants! Thanks for all ur help!!

u would most likely be better of and be happier with the end results if u go with the 150 hps u found there i and if u get it if u know wut u are doing u and make the ballast remote but that proly wouldn't be to necessary unless u got a heat issue and with that space LST, SCRoG, or SOG would would well in ur area. well i hope this suugestion helps u in sum way and gl!

No worries friend :-) I can sense your passion for growing the herb. We have enough enemies out there, we certainly dont need to fall out amongst ourselves. We're all here to learn :-)

Eddie, just take time to read through as many of the CFL threads here as you can, note the average wattage used and the type, 2700Kelvins/ 6400kelvins. Theres a lot of good honest info to be found in this CFL forum. I look forward to watching your grow progress.

i know that the hps system is probbably better but then again this is my first grow ever so i want to start small... i want to go all cfl's for my 6 white widow plants.. i will be getting my own house in septemeber so ill most likely get an hps system by then.. but for right now i want to go all cfl's... i just want some input on my idea... here is wat i got so far... ok so my space is 8 feet tall 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep... i will be growing 6 plants at a time... i will be using my closet for both vegging and flowering.. my walls are all white so that is a plus!.. i will have a little fan giving air throughout vegging and flowering... i will be leaving the closet door open during the day while they are reciving light... so more fresh air can go inside the closet... but when the plants need their sleep i will be closing the door shut and making sure no light disturbs their sleepy time... wat do u guys think of this?? oh yeah and the question i still have is "how many cfl's do i need??? of how many watts??? and how many cool white and warm white lights??? cause i am trying to use all the same lights for both vegging and flowering... i also think that i will be placing some cfls between the plants close to their roots,,, do u guys think this is a good idea?? thanks for ur answers!!!
