I will be running a 4x4 tent with a 1000w dim able ballest(just Incase I decided I don't want that much heat) what do you guys think I should plant? As in total number of plants. This is just personal use but I do want a high enough yield to not have to buy any in between grows.

Do you realize how much you can get from 4x4? 4-12 plants or even more for SOG in that space, it's just how long do you want to veg. If you do a good job you can easily get over a pound (a great job=2lb, insane=3lb) from that tent every 3 months. That is way more than personal for anyone I have ever met. If you are really wanting only personal you may want to downsize.
Also check your state laws in some cases there is a number of plants that moves you from misdemeanor to felony. Not in my state, but for example, WI has 4 or more plants as felony cultivation, 20 or more for more time and $, but 3 would just be a misdemeanor possession if your first offense otherwise felony possession.
