Need advice on lighting

I have recently purchased a 1000 watt hps-mh lighting system. Also I puchased seeds from the single seed centre(which I ordered 2 weeks ago and no show yet.) I was curious if I should use this lighting system to grow my seedlings, or spend the money and get a flourecent set up for seedlings. I am pretty sure that the 1000 watt system will work but just wanted some insite. Thanks

I have asked this question many times and have been told I should use flouros or IF you use the MH keep it as far from the plants as you can. idk...I just started my seeds right in rockwool, right in the hydroton, right under my 1000 watt MH. Some have already cracked and have long taproot. Hopefully the rest will germ soon too.

I use 1000's only for flowering, Cause they r way too strong for babies. I veg. under T-5's (they make different size's) until they r strong enough & ready to flower. They will love you more! Peace & Happy growing.

If you run the 1000 watt you will be using 18-24 Kw+ per day, get a t5 and you can cut that dramatically and get just as good of results, if fact better in a lot of cases, temp is easier to regulate and the plants become much bushier rather than tall and lanky.

You don't say how many plants but, if it's only a few a 2' T5 will do the trick. If that's more than you want to spend I have done well with up to 4 in solo cups under a single 42W CFL with a decent reflector. I have only used the cfl for 6-9 inches, the T5 is good for 18"-24". I wouldn't burn that 1,000W for seedlings but, that's just me.

Thanks for the input all, I am going to do three to six plants and I also have a 400 watt mh-hps light, would this work better or do you think that the cfl is the way to go.

Iwould go with a cfl or tube for seedling.Then when roots are established veg under a more intense light than finish them off with your 1000.1000 watts isnt too much light for them its just not cost evective to start them under 1k.when you can do it under 75-100watts.Depending on how many seedling you plan on doing.Yep go from cfl to 400 to 1k.
