Near the end of flowering and have a few questions.-+

My first bubble grow is in its 5th or 6th week of flowering and is looking amazingly frosty. I think they will be done in another week at the most. I had a question though that I thought you guys could answer. About a week ago I thought they were almost finished so instead of adding more nutes to the water mix, I went with strait water. So far they have been totally fine and look healthier than ever. However, they are still drinking water at an insane rate. I added about 1.5 gallons a few days ago and they were down today to around .3 gallons. Is it ok to just keep filling the water basin with pure water for the rest of the grow? Thanks!

Here is 2 pictures taken at the beginning of the week. They are much frostier now.

you stopped using nutes to soon, they did not look close to done. have you looked at them with a microscope? You could try putting 500 ppm of molassas in your water, they might finish that way. could just keep doing what your doing and get something off it.What strain are you growing?

Hello green grower.what you are doing is what you should be doing -Flushing it .this is so important for the taste amoung other things.now by looking at the picture your doing a bit to early, that plant in the picture has a ways to go.

The strain might be AK48 from Nirvana, but these were in that free bag of seeds you get with every order, so maybe not. I tried to grow a whole bunch in soil but I lost all of them to spider mites :( This is my first venture into a water medium, and so far its worked out better than everything else.

Use 500ppm of molasses? I haven't heard of doing that, what does it do?

I really wish I had a camera that could take a picture of how the plants look now since my iPhone can't take close up shots worth a damn. I really need to pick up some kinda magnifying device so I can be sure. I'm sure you guys are right though and I pulled them off nutes a bit early. I really need to keep a grow journal so I can remember when I did things :/

oh by the way, despite all of the stupid mistakes I made with this grow, I did find one thing I did right. Although in my next grow I will employ a SOG, Bushmaster works amazingly well in keeping a plant short and fat. Well worth the money imo.

I suggested molassas because i thought your plant was not close enough for a flush, hydro does not need to flush for 2 weeks. molassas is what alot of growers use during a flush for taste and because it still gives the plants nutes to help put on more weight. So in your case it may have helped it finish, but if not at least you would not have unwanted nutes in your smoke.

No need to flush in DWC unless you are using a dense medium with poor drainage or you have given them high strength nutes over 1000ppm .5 conversion or over 1400ppm .7 conversion for an extended period of time.Flushing is a never ending debate some 4 some against.

dont rush the harvest, thats all i can say. cfls do take a little longer to mature. and if you notice how your pistils are still white that means its still producing new flowers or "bud". and the "red hairs" are fully developed ones. once there are barely any white ones thats when its time to harvest. good luck dude

Actually, the color of pistils DO NOT determine bud maturity and time of harvest, pistils can change color the day after it forms...it is very inaccurate and always leads to premature harvest...trichome colors are the way to go...

I agree, Trichome scopes are 30 bucks at the bong shop. Go get one and measure on trichomes not color of hairs.

im not looking to argue here but in my experiences when a plant is just starting to bud they are all white (pistils)... and when that single flower is done forming the pistils on it die and turn red. towards the end of flowering you can see that the plant is only putting out maybe one or 2 new flowers on each budsite. with the white pistils almost all gone you know that its not putting on much more weight. and in my personal opinion i like a somewhat "early" harvest...well as far as the trichomes go. when you let them get cloudy it is more of a couchlock high rather than a uplifting do something fun high. i guess what im trying to say is that if its not producing new bud its pretty much done. and yes i have heard of the microscope trichome thing but ive never done it.

like i said we all have our own prefrences but this is my way of doing things. keep smoking people, and try both ways if you can and see wich one you like better. that is what i always do when i have something come up like this.

I hear what you're saying, but there are three stages of trichome colors...it goes from clear, to milky/cloudy, then to amber...and when most are amber, the high will be more "up-lifting"...you should try it, if you like...
BTW...when your plant stops producing more bud, it does not necessarily mean it's done growing...the production of bud will stop, but the calyxes will begin to swell...

SLB good point on the swelling ive never really thought about that.. but im pretty sure the early harvest is more of an uplifting one (clear) and the amber is the more couchlock. 99-100% sure about that one.

My bad, I tend to confuse things when I'm blown outta my mind...(like I am now)...that's why I keep pictures like this to help me remember stuff like that!View attachment 1031176
thank you for pointing this out! Take care!

haha i hear that i make mistakes like that myslef, and it takes a good person to admit to it. i see so many assholes on here that wont admit to bieng even a little wrong. keep on growing broski

Thanks for all the ideas and tips. They are still sucking up water like crazy, but they are looking more and more ready for harvest every day. I'm thinking another week and they will be perfect. I did end up getting a jewelers microscope for cheap and that's put a whole new perspective on her. I'll update in a few more days :)
