Too much focus on everything BUT native peoples teachings, spoken history, Almost everything that we had known as a people has been changed or ripped from us imvho. I am not 100% native, Lennox island mi'kmaq first nations people and norweigan. I was curious if there are others here at RIU who have native american lineage? I'd also like to hear the goings on in your area, i REFUSE to use the R word anymore. Those places were designated by white men to forget about us, well you can't forget about a people who remain STRONG as the rocks this country was built on! How about a little love for the natives of this nation and continent?

my elders taught me well, everything in the 'now' seems degraded and fake compared to earlier times to me. I am proud of my lineage, and am sick and tired of seeing "new americans" complain that they arent being heard for the love of truth really??

My personality type is of the such that doesn't need external energy to be fed. I could be launched into deep space in solitude and function decently enough so long as there is something to occupy my mind with.

We don't buy the latest crap, we live humbly, carry very minimal debt, and I enjoy spending most of my time tending my plants and being thankful for rain. Squanto caught his fish that he fertilized with, I pour mine from a bottle. We are both different, yet we are the same.

I’ve worked with Native peoples from remote communities here in Canada from 2001 - last year. Fly in reserves and others across Ontario, Nunavut, Manitoba, and Alberta.

Some of the best people I have ever met.

There is a lot of racism towards natives in my city. I hate it. I wish I could show them what the lives of the people they “hate and blame” was actually like.

I’ve lost a lot of friends over the years to suicide, alcohol, substance abuse. Some are still around, but lost to me because they can’t find their way out of the darkness.

I hope in my lifetime things get better for them. I hope it does.

I'm as white as they come, but I'm well aware of the politics of racism and division. The time for that is long over; if we are to meet the challenge of survival as a HUMAN race on this planet or anywhere else, we all need to work together, each contributing our strengths.

Native peoples everywhere have a much longer cultural history and awareness than the average western educated citizen. An awareness of and willingness to work with time scales of centuries and millennia were not beyond the abilities of our distant forebears; I refuse to accept the notion that such concepts are beyond the reach of 'modern' civilisation.
