national guard - I need money

I'm desperate for money because I need to pay my way through school this next fall. I have two friends in the national guard and one of them was telling me that he was going to make $40,000 in four weeks (I just figured he meant $4,000). Four grand isn't bad though, that will be a start towards my tuition that's under $10,000. I'm only considering joining the national guard because like I said, I'm in desperate need for money to put towards tuition.

I wasn't sure if anyone here had experience with the national guard or knew if I could do that and go to school. and I mean the school I want to go to.

They will stick your ass over seas for the foreseable future. All kinds of possible wars on the horizon and don't trust the recruiter they will lie through their teeth.

you might have to do a deployment, could be a year tour over in the stan. But on the bright side they will pay 100% of your tution and a lil spending money each month.

Well one good thing is that Basic training will make you or break you .. anything that keeps you busy will keep you from getting in trouble ..
Good luck

hell I don't want to join the national guard, air force, navy, anything that has to do with the military. but I need money. a loan? fuck man I didn't even think of that. all day I've been thinking about how I was going to get money for school and the most obvious direction I could have chosen didn't come to mind. all I need is about $4,000 and my parents will reimburse me if I manage a 3.4 gpa at least, so I could pay it back right after that one semester. I'll look into subsidized loans.

but I have taken the wars that could come into account but I was always under the impression that the national guard didn't do serious time in combat or anything life threatening. and as far as the training goes, I'm a boxer and my body is in amazing shape. I quit smoking too, I haven't been getting high a lot lately and when I have it's been from ingesting marijuana via firecrackers, brownies or something.

edit: and I just found out that they'll 100% tuition for two years but then you have to go into advanced training immediately after.

I enlisted in the Marines and was injured during boot-camp, never re-enlisted. I have known a few guys in the guard, they hate it. One of them is leaving to Afghanistan on the 11th. Trust me, if you say you don't want to, DO NOT DO IT. The minimum years of service is 4 full active and 4 reserves a total of 8 years, I don't think you want to do that. Take ganjababy's advice and take out a loan.

It wasn't bush, and the gas prices will be back at $4.00 a gallon very soon, rest assured and enjoy it while you can. It happens every election year.

look into grants as well, it's free money. There should be some links on the financial aid section of your college's website. Student loans are good because they give you time before you have to start paying it back, usually after you graduate.

military is fun. if you have half a brain it is like a paid vacation. Except you have to iron.
Don't forget about running the floor buffer...... I rock at ironing and doing floors.

Don't do it for the money. Do it for Duty, Honor, Country.......

I don't qualify for financial aid because my father makes too much. but it isn't a lot when you have three kids going to college, you know? my dad also told me I didn't qualify for a subsidized loan because he makes too much according to the government or something. I don't understand how you can't qualify for a loan, there has to be a loan I can take out for sure. I don't know anything about loans because I didn't have to take any out this semester and never educated myself in that matter.

I'm only concerned with one semester of school being paid for so after thinking about it I've decided that joining a branch of the military isn't worth it for what I want.
