i think when your ruler, who has the standing of a god on earth, tells you "build this", you make it happen. they had thousands of slaves and paid craftsmen, and army of cooks, clothes washers, whores, men sleeping in shifts, working all day and night to get things done.
and don't confuse these people with cavemen, they had some pretty sophisticated knowledge and tools available to them. water powered saws to cut blocks, animal powered "cranes" to lift them into place. i've seen a couple of pbs or learning channel programs where they would use water or sand to cushion a large object being lowered into place with animal or human power. it was a monumental undertaking, but they had nothing to do but what their semi divine pharaoh told them to do...

When you have 1000’s of disposable slave lives to play with, you can build great things. The pyramids, Notre Dame, the Burj Khalifa....

i'm not sure they used thousands of disposable slaves to build a motel, but otherwise, good examples

Humans have lost technology in regards to working with stone. Cutting, carving and moving it. South America is littered with monolithic structures that are impossible to reproduce by modern man.
