Alright! Three weeks woohoo.
so, I just came home and turned on the lights.

everything looks good and i was hopeing someone could give me some advice, encouragement, possitive critisism...ect

as i said before she is at three weeks flower.

I have 2 65 watt cfl's, 2 42 watt cfl's (all four warm white), 2 20 watt coolblue cfl's, four 40 watt cool blue tubes, 1 20 watt all spectrum tube. and lastly a 15 watt 10.0 reptisun uvb light.

How does everything sound and look.

\Also, would you be kind enough to guess my dry weight, and whether or not my nugs will be "fluffy" or tight.

your going to get a low "fluffy" bud harvest if you just flower out with those CFL's.

Invest in a hps like anitweed suggested. It will make the harvest worth it instead of going through all this to get a shitty yeild. I know your going to be growing again because it just happens that way so just get one.

Thats BULLSHIT buddy! have you ever grown before? Just look in the cfl forum to find some big coke can sized buds.:peace:

Am i reading that right? eleven lights plus the UVB? that certainly sounds like sufficient lighting. The CFLs will have some penetration issues but i'm guessing you already know that since you are flowering early.

I really hate to hazard a guess about yield so i'll low ball by saying you should get at least an ounce and a half of very decent bud (though I suspect a bit more than that is likely). What it will lack in density it will more than make up for with electric bill savings, cost of lights and stealthiness. And this is coming from someone who uses a 1000w of HID bulbs!

I'm not sure if you are using some kind of reflective material for walls but the more you can concentrate the lights on the plants (through reflective walls, lamp hoods, etc..) the better.

awesome! you are the man Email. as far as reflective material goes, my space is lined with black plastic, then white. appreciate ya brother.:joint:


O and i should probably mention That my pot is 5-10 gallons (1.25 cubic ft of soil) w/roots coming out of drain holes.should i transplant?

yeah just keep doing your thing and i am sure you will be happy with your harvest. some cfl's grows will be surprising. the light and airy thing may be true for some but my first grow using mostly cfl's my buds were hard as rocks although they were a bit early and could have fattened up more. keep doing a good job and hope u have a nice harvest.

Rep for you....I've never heard anyone at RIU that uses the high powered lights (600-1000 watt) advocate a cfl grow....Or acknowledge their legitimacy...It's not always about getting the most dense bud or the biggest yields....Goos post

thanks JohnnyBravo! I am seriously considering trying them for myself so i can speak from experience. i would be foolish not to acknowledge the obvious benefits and i see the awesome results from some of the CFL journals on here. Plus I picked up seemorebuds book and really enjoyed it. 8 oz for under $100 bucks! that rules! To be honest, i wish that was the first book i bought. i could follow the steps in the book and try soil for the first time too!

Maybe i'll grow some tomatoes under the HIDs :joint:

it seems almost unreal that someone who uses HIDs says that they want to try cfl grow. i find that pretty damn sweet. :hug:
there needs to be more people who are willing to try things differently instead of using the same technique everyone else is using.

I really appreciate the positive feedback but I know i'm not the only HID grower looking at the benefits of CFLs. I just read in Ed Rosenthal's "Best of Ask Ed" book that he considers MH lighting a waste of money! Garden_Knowm is going to ask him about that but if this is true - then I think the advice of CFLs/t5s is going to become more common and if you want nice big buds from tall plants then you'll supplement with an HPS.

i have a batch in the current system now but i may do some redesigning for my next go round. in the meanwhile, i'm going to keep studying and checking out the grow journals.

cfls work wonders on small plants especialy single plant grows. I too read see more buds books and find them great. on sale at barnes and noble or amazon. I used a stainless steel trash can as a one plant room with 3 cfls worked great but watered to death. I bought a 400 watt mh/hps conversion with ballast and hood 4 165.... less than i pay 4 a half of the cheese. great post good luck

i was pleased with my first cfl, but a 400w sure does the job better for me now. just one girlie like you, oh the memories. cfls are fine when used right, but i would start savin for an hps in the future, you wont regret it.

I"m also going to be using CFL's for flowering, just not as many. When my friend flowered his 3 plants with only 9 42 Watt Warm white CFLs he got awesome results with over 1.5 ounces off each plant. The only trick he said is too put the lights within inches of the plants and just get 2 fans to always blow on the lights so they aren't hot. If the lights aren't hot you can basically concentrate all the light on one area and make your dense buds appear where you want them. He trimmed most of the bottoms and concentrated mainly on the tops and the cola of the plant. In the end he had 4 8" buds weighing over 7-9gs dry each, thats not including the popcorn buds. Hope this was helpful in some way. Keep up the great work in your room!

I'm doing very well so far with 5 cfl's, all "100"watts equivilent (I have yet to add up the lumens. Sorry, y'all. BUT, the penetration problem is solved because the bulbs fit into just about any type of lamp, so I have bendy, clip lamps illuminating the interior of the bush all along the bottom, with two main bulbs angling at the top. I'm about 2 weeks into flowering, and my buds get bigger every day, Even the smaller ones at the bottom of the plant! Plus, all my "armpit" buds are going crazy. I'm using a combination of Daylight and Warm bulbs.
