OK heres the skinny LED's take a look at irish boys journal, also how much area are you trying to cover with them, will you try and experimentally flower with them? I will tell you right now you will get more yeild off of an LED and better quality than a T5 for flower. I have personally yeilded off of 24 plants or so (way to manny) on an ebb and flow 2x2 feet wide 3.5 ounces off of a single kessil led consuming 36 watts of power, now they arent great for area coverage and i would only suggest those for veg if you were going to use them for flower too because of how much $ they are and the footprint. Since i assume your going to still flower t5 style til you get comfortable with led's i would suggest the Spectra Led or Blackstar, blackstar is a bit cheaper but if you flower the yeild will be less than a spectra, the spectras run you a bit more and will easily handle veg and flower, however you can get a veg spectrum blackstar 240w that will cover a 2x3 area no problem for veg for 240 bucks. If it was veg only thats what i'd be looking at, if you think you may use to flower later, look at spectra and kessil. Probably the 2 best ones out there now. steer clear of stuff like the htg leds and things like that those are oldschool led tech and not up to par whatsoever with current technology.

if you want mostly if not all blue look into the kessil purple LEDs or the straight up blue booster but like i said less area coverage the Blackstar veg panel has more blue and white thn the flower panel, flower panel worked excellent for veg i can only imagine the veg panel would be amazing.

as far as LEDs and flowering with em, Im just not goin in that direction here.

I just want them to cover a 2 foot by 2 foot area in a mother/clone room for about same price as i could with t5s.

could you send links to the best bets for this? anything overkill just aint needed cuz like i said, its just 2 square feet in a clone room. 240 watt is way overkill for what im talkin bout.

ok if thats what your looking for you need to be looking at blackstar LED's they are the cheapest for what you are trying to cover it PERFECTLY covers a square foot area and i mean PERFECTLY thats where the main saturation is they claim six square feet but its really only 4. But that being said you can get one for about 240 or so go onto ebay, look up blackstar 240w veg model go thru gotham hyrdoponics and CALL when you order dont order on ebay CALL and he will give you a better deal. like 50 bucks off or so i think. 240 watts is not actual power usage its not over kill man it only uses 120 watts less than your 4 bulb t5 does. Led's work differntly most are rated higher than they are driven meaning, there 80 3 watt led's in a 240 watt panel but they are only driven to about 50% power so its 120 watt panel, see what i mean? Only spectra rates panels at actual wattage pull and kessil.

link to blackstar says 280 its not, its only 240 if you call, your not going to find a decent panel for much less than that, if you want to go cheaper you can but it wont cover the space your talking about probably, however i can tell you you wont see anything veg like this ever im still on t5 for veg too and i want to switch badly jus cant afford it yet, i need more lums for the flower room first.

then why do they say 240 watt at all? and spending over 200 dollars is not happening cuz i can cover it with t5s for under 100. just dont make any sense

cuz technically they are 240 watts they just dont have a power supply to drive them to that because of reliablility issues, its a shitty marketing ploy but i do own one of these panels and i stand behind them. Matter of fact even irish boy agrees with me they are excellent panels just dont have the yeild in flower that the spectras do and your not after that anyways so..

its all marketing from early days of led sales when people where led nazis and didnt know the benefits so they had to try and make em look like they were closer in output because not many people knew a bunch about PAR til they started doin serious light research about spectrums its not intesity that matters its the PAR

ironic as the main benefit of LEDs was that they used way less power than HID lighting. Saying its using more tha it really is sounds like the worst thing they could possibly do hahaha

i just looked up that light n it didnt have a veg version...said it was now geared for flower and had way more red LEDs? Sorry if im overlooking something

click the link i provided its the veg model the flower model also works bitchin for veg i used it, had 0 problems the veg model just stacks nodes a LIL bit closer.

heres some info from their page on it What is the VEG/CLONE model? Can I use this to flower also? This light has been specifically modified to aid in vegetative growth and deliver plants that produce up to 30% more NODES when in final flowering. It is simply the best solution for Veg/Clone of any light system on the market, even die hard HID enthusiasts agree, vegging with LED is the way to go. We do have a small number of users who also use this light to flower. It takes a longer time to finish but we have heard rumors of vast amounts of essential oils produced when using this light on an elongated flowering run.

Just follow the link i left you a couple posts up and call the phone number remember they are east coast but they guys very knowledgable and quite polite as well.

ahhh okay, i hate how poorly links stick out on this sites format :(

still the problem of price. how can i justify over 200 for a light thats just keeping moms alive n clones rooting? LED prices cant come down soon enough!

well if you want LED's thats as cheap as it gets to cover that area you want right now with a good panel. Its why i havent converted my mother room to LED either, Love em for flower though i highly suggest you try them, stack for a while then get a spectra 180, i've seen qp's pulled off of one plant with them and they use and actual 180 watts of power.

You would be surprised how far prices have come down. I hear you on expense though LED's are expensive up front it will pay for itself slowlyl in the mother room with electric savings but its still gonna take longer than say if you replace your flower lights with LEDs to see the $ savings than if you used em for flower.

Oh LED's why must you be so mysterious. I wish i could get everyone to grow with LED's i've done it all, even plasma/induction on a small scale had bad luck but that was i think the light manufacturers fault shit quality returned it after four days of use. So far i have seen nothing that gives me the 1.5+gpw i get from LED's even though i have to buy more to equal yeild of an HPS i still am making money, GPW doesnt lie, thats why i laugh at doods and their 1k lights when they could be using 2 600w hps lights get the same yeild use less power amazing how 1200 watts uses less power than 1k but its because its two ballast so weird. Lights hurt my brain.

Sup Myles? Plants are looking happy for sure. Seems like they enjoyed the feeding from the other day. I love how tight the nodes are. Is that from keeping the lights close?

For all the people around here that have never seen what Myles can do I thought I would give a little preview. This is what he did with some Papaya almost exactly 3 years ago. Myles, hope you don't mind me letting the cat out of the bag!

This picture sticks out distinctly in my mind as one of the reasons I started growing in the first place. Now if I could only get these kind of results!:mrgreen:

so WTF your not payin power? you get free utilities where your at? Or did you say you had a partner payin wtf lol thats cheating man i wish i didnt have to pay for power lol. Its actually why im saving for solar panels, if i lived by a stream id already have a hydroelectric generator crackin. I love not paying for power lol
