My seeds are pissing me off!

:wall: I have been germin' my seeds for 5 days now and of the 10 that started 0 have a roots coming out. :finger:

What is going on!?! 3 seeds have cracked but that's it. No root. :oHELP:o
 
I touched my seeds moving them from a glass of water (24 hour soak) to a cup with the paper towel wrapped around it. The seeds are between the cup and towel with water in the bottom of the cup. The germin' has seen light and darkness with warmth from the desktop computer. This is where I'm at as of now.

HELP!!!
 
Lets start at square one (that's fancy science talk impressive huh). Are you sure the seeds were good?

Have they all turned black?
 
after keeping them in the water for 24 hours try just putting them in soil, with a dome of some type over the bucket or whatever you are going to be growing in, you should see a sprout within a couple of days i use tweezers to remove the seeds(just a habit, not necessary) the dome will keep humidity high and that will help. like a mini green house, i try to keep it as "natural" as possible remember its just a weed and it has been growing naturally for centurys before us and will be here after we are gone. keep it simple man. even after germing in soil you can still switch your plants to a hydro system after a light cleaning to remove as much of the soil as possible without hurting the plant.
 
Does anyone do the 24 water soak, with a bit of roothormones mixed with the water? Or superthrive? I havent but I was wondering if someone has, I think greennobody does.. not sure.

I got the seeds from a friend. I have no way of knowing if they are good seeds. One thing my friend did share with me is that the seeds were 5th generation seeds.

If I do end up putting the seeds in the soil, do I want to put them under lighting at this point?
 
Here's an update:

I have one seedling that has the taproot showing:). I have two seeds that have cracked:clap:. I have seven seeds that are still dormant:sleep:.

If you got any ideas let me know. Thanks guys/gals!
 
I'm no expert and I make no claim to be, but I'll pass along what I learned in college about germinating...everything a plant needs to germinate is contained in the seed. There are lipids and nutrients that are designed to promote optimal growth when external conditions are advantageous. So to the question regarding adding root hormone to the seeds, I would say it would harm the chemistry of the seeds lipids and may stunt growth.

When it comes to some of your seed not germinating. In Cervantes' book it states that some seeds have a real tough outer coat. He suggests putting them in a match box lined with some very find sand paper, which you would shake generating scratches on the surface of the seed. These fine scratches would then allow water to get into the seed easier and help get germination started. Now your seeds are already wet and you're supposed to do this before you actually get them wet, but it's worth a go if nothing else is working. Just my 0.02

I think I got some crappy seeds because I only have one seed that is getting ready to crack the surface of the soil. I have three seeds that cracked but have done nothing else. I have four more seeds STILL germin' from way back when.

My buddy gave me some other seeds and I thought I would try something a little different. I took a finger nail filer and scraped the outside of 10 new seeds. I then put them in the towel in a cup and let them do their thing. Oh boy did they! They all rotted! My buddy told me that they were crappy seeds but I think it's because of the fingernail filer.

Needless to say, I started off with 20 bagseed seeds and I have what looks to be 1 plant that should come out of it. If all goes well I will be starting a grow journal within the next couple of days.

In the mean time I am on the hunt for some killer seeds, not seeds that are easily killed.

P.S. If anybody has some extra seeds that they wanna send me let me know:wink:.
