Well I have gnats. Just ran out and got some Azamax and drenched everyone. Also got those stickie yellow and blue cards, I figure if I have gnats I might have thrips (thats why the blue one) and have Spinosad otw.

Thank you Roots Organics for de-flowering (pun intended) my new setup. But all is good, hopefully I havnt killed everything yet :) So glad the information was available to know what to do, thanx guys!

They are really never an issue as long as you keep your temps at 75 degrees or lower and keeping the top of the dirt clear from any leaf matter (I also like to scratch the top of the soil around the pot mixing up that top layer every few days or so). I will usually see 3-4 gnats over the first 4 weeks or so of new soil. I kill the ones I see on spot and go by the general rules sub has laid out before that include the temps and keeping clean. I also use a organic tea now and I have noticed it gets rid of them even faster (even though they never really are an issue for me). I use the tea as a foliar spray and the bugs leave the plants alone. I just do preventative things so I rarely see any bug issues. How many gnats did you see?

Yea your fine. If I were you, I would try to hone in the temps to 75 and just stay vigilant. Remember bugs don't eat healthy plants. So as long as your plants not sick or stressed bugs will stay away from them. So they might be hatching from the Roots soil but as long as you have a happy grow room they will disappear quickly. If not you can make a mix of liquid soap/water and juice or soda and they will go to the liquid mixture and sink into it. The liquid soap you add ruins the waters surface tension disallowing the gnats from floating. Good Luck.

Im sure even if you left the temps alone you most likely will still see them go away as long as you have healthy plants and no debris laying around.

I would not just douse them with chems. Put up the strips right away and put a 2x2 in piece of patato in there and remove it every four hours during the lighting time. The strips will get rid of the adults in a week and in the mean time they will lay their larve on the patatos. Check them out with your scope you will be amazed.

If a bug gets into a room, and there are no unhealthy plants. its not going to starve and die.

Try out go gnats. works great for soil based bugs. can mist it as well.

I just have seen it as a very general scenario. I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions because I have not seen it all when it comes to this. What I have witnessed though is if a garden is kept healthy and stress free the normal pests that show up (if they do at all) usually don't stick around for very long. I maybe should have phrased my statement differently cause there are things like the thrips that do damage irregardless of general health of the plant. I spoke to generally.I apologize for the misinformation.

Yes. Bugs will go after a weak plant over a strong plant if they are available, but they will then spread to other plants regardless.

it takes a bad infestation to seriously affect your grow in soil, so i wouldnt be too worried. now i have seen seeds getting eaten hollow by fungus gnat larvae, so be careful about that.

what i always do which works really really well for me. ive never had to use any pesticides or even BTI. i cut the sticky part out on each side and then cut each side in half making 6x2 rectangles, and place them around on the topsoil covering a good amount of it with sticky traps. it can be annoying to lift them up to water, but the adults will come down to lay there eggs, they will think the yellow traps are sick fallen leaves that there babies will enjoy and they will land on them, get stuck, and die. effectivly stopping them from laying any more eggs. i havnt tried this on any massive infestations, but for the small or average infestation it works great for me.

I looked in this morning and I havnt kilt any plants yet, thats a good sign lol. No bugs yet on either the blue or yellow stickies. I am a lil concerned I have thrips starting, I saw a few 'lines' on about 3 plants.

I will be transplanting soon (week or 2) and was thinking I should pretreat the super soil and the Roots soil before hand for the gnats. Can I, should I pretreat for thrips and gnats at the same time with Spinosad and Azamax?

Thanx

Sticky traps and a drench should REDUCE the gnats. Sticky traps being more important than you'd think. You also have THRIPS from the Roots. Pyganic for the thrips?

I have found that throwing a bug bomb into the room the easiest way to rid bugs without harming the ladies.
....sorry, not a good idea.....knats and thrips are easily managed with a natural based soil drench, and foliar spray......barely a concern at all.....and i agree.....sticky traps are excellent.....also, mulch the base of each plant with pure rinsed coco.....you will be amazed at how many sub-surface breeding critters simply will not tollerate the environment the mulch creates.

you can add neem water mix and fill the drip tray and let the plant soak it up alot of the larve are living at the bottom of pot especially because i use sand on top of soil. so they breed at the bottom pot holes.

you could also use food grade detrometis earth, and mix it with sand put on the first half inch or so of the soil. The de will rip the adults apart as it is tiny glass pieces and they will die and not lay larve because the sand confuses them.

Thanx for the suggestions. I wanted to throw a picture up to see what you all thought. This look like thrips to you?
