My plants need a little help!

Ok, so I am growing 5 Northernberry plants from Peak seeds. These are not feminized and no sex has been determined on these plants as of yet. They are 33 days old from the first sprout of plant. So this is there 2nd week of Veg. I water them every 2 or 3 days depending on how the soil feels. They are watered with distilled water 75% and tap water 25% mixed. They have had one feeding of nutes at 1/2 strength.
Nutes are General Organics "go box". They are under an LED grow light at about 24" from the plant.
The growing medium is soil, Pro mix with a bag of worm castings mixed in.
Last couple days the plants have developed yellowing of leaves and new growth is yellow. One leaf actually has a hole in it where it has dried and yellowed. Please have a look at the pictures and let me know what you guys
think might be the problem.

Your temps are way to low. 38 degrees at night is almost freezing for those plants. Should be mid 70's for the day and high 60's at night.

Too cold at night and too much water, they need to dry out in between waterings. MD

Thanks for your replies guys. I just want to clarify that the number on the top of the gauge is humidity, not temp.
Temps have never been below 70 degrees and usually stay around 75 on average. The humidity is usually around
40 to 50% the average being about 44%. The humidity really drops when I open the tent.
I watered them today, its been 4 days since last water. I have been watering them until run off, but today I just gave them a
little drink, pots where very light and soil seemed dry. Does it look like a calcium def? or just over watering.

They look over watered to me also. Not just by looking at the plant but by looking at the perlite. If the soil is new the perlite should still be white not brown if it was not over watered after only being in use for 33 days. It is not likely the amount of water you are using each watering, it is more likely that you are not letting the plant have enough time to dry out some between watering IMO.

EDIT: I also see some algae on top of some of the soil, a third sign they are to wet.

Also ( my 2¢ )

1. Do you plan to up pot them ?
2. If it was me ... I would clip ALL leaves " touching " wet soil .
3. Have fans blowing across top of plants - helps keep drying on track.
4. Pull the saucers under pots ... Last thing you want is pots in water.
5. Water - why are you trying to RATIO your water by percentage. .?

You can use tap in your regular watering and mixes and ph it before use.
Distilled is usually boiled off water or deionized , and usually highly stripped of minerals .
Minerals important to plants - calcium / magnesium/ chlorine. Yes ... Plants do use SOME chlorine in growth. You could leave out an in covered container with water out everyday for use or prepping it for use later , it will gas off a bit of the chlorine / Chloramine.

You can add a bubble stone and aquarium pump ( small ) and oxygenate that container of water until you need it. It really is that simple .


You really don't need to use MAGIC WATER. Guessing on what ratios of percentage of this kind of water mixed into that kind of water is just a waste of time. There is no way what you will end up with with out lab testing it. As long as you balance the alkaline vs. too acidic is what you want . Grass in your yard grows straight from the hose.

Thanks for your reply Kush and Budz. Here's a little more info. The reason I use distilled mixed with tap water is due to an elevated amount of calcium in the water where I live. I was worried about putting too much calcium into the soil. I admit that my mixing is not exact. I use a large measuring cup and measure 3 to 1 with the distilled. I have the tap water sitting for at least 48 hours before using to burn off the chlorine which is also very high where I live. Here are the answer to some of your other questions.
1. Yes, I plan to pot them. I have 5 gallon fabric pots ready to go. Again these plants have not determined sex yet, I am hoping to get at least 2 females out of the 5.
2. I'm afraid to clip the leaves out of fear of stressing the plants more. I will revisit that next week.
3. I have had one fan blowing across the top, just added another fan today.
4. I will pull the saucers.

I guess due to the fact that I am new to this, I am over thinking things. I am going to try and just use some tap for the next while and see how that goes.
Now a couple more newb questions.
When you guys water, do you water till run off or just wet things?
Also, when I put the dirt in the pots, I put it in and left it very loose. I never packed it at all or pushed it down. Should the soil be packed a little firmer into the pot?

yea i was wondering what e was talking about with the temps i didnt see you mention them, but whats this business with 75% distilled water and 25 tap? i notice you didnt mention your PH... which again, this is another PH issue, seems like every issue on the forum is PH related, also noone mentioned your soil mix, you already have nutrients in the soil, no need to feed yet, for future when they are young try to use up whats in the soil and start at 25% nutes, you may find out that 50% MAY BE THE MAXIMUM sorry caps

and as always, test the ph of the run off water, this will give you better insight on whats going on in the roots! oh yea good stuff about the waterings, thats how i would check to see if they need water, lift the plants and see if they are light, dont pack the soil, you need the air, the soil will compress on its own from watering, and it dont matter how much water, you can pour 100 gallons through them, what matters is how often, watering often is no good, let the plant tell you what it wants, by lifting the pot, bro i know how hard it is, these are your babies and you want the best for them, remember less is more, and PH PH and PH! when you come on the forums and you have a problem the first thing you must mention is whats your Ph, like i said before start out slow with the nutes and let the plant tell you, you will be fine....if you listen to me because i am a forum nazi! lol

Thanks for the input Morris. I have tried to PH the soil. I have one of those 2 prong PH meters from the grow shop, but I have no faith in it. It always seems to stay in the same place.... on the alkaline side of things at 7. I tried using it in tap water..alkaline at 7. I tried it in distilled water.... alkaline at 7. Not sure if it works in water or not. Any suggestions for a PH tester?

that home depot tester thing is junk, go to the hydro shop and get the drops,PH will determine your success, thats why these are all PH issues, more experienced growers with accurate meters dont have these issues, when they have probs, they are major!

dont water based on a schedule, i know its hard to resist to always try to do something for the plants, but less is more, wait for the pots to be light when u pick them up, a heavy pot is soaked
