My plants aren't very sturdy in their 10 gallon totes and 6" net pots w/ hydroton

Anyone else out there running a hydro setup and have issues with the plants wanting to fall over? Kind of top heavy?

I had a lot of issues this grow so maybe my root ball isn't big enough? Stem not think enough? Beats me...this was my first grow.

Please let me know if I should expect my plants to be very sturdy in the 6" net pot filled with hydroton.

BUMP. Anyone running hydro in totes and have this problem?

How old r your plants? I ran two 9" netpots in a 18 gal before and had no problems.

Im starting my plants off in a 3 inch net first,then placing that 3 inch in my 6 inch net this time.
I think that will help.

Just get a roll of twist tie at lowes. You can pull it to length then cut it and drill small holes on lid and secure stalk that way. I do this for my 5 gal buckets.

Yea... I have 3.5" net pots and my bitches are all kinds of falling over. I knew they would be, but I've been lazy with buy a roll of fishing string.

I tried fishing line but the pull to length twist tie is so much easier, especially when changing out buckets for res changes.

Tomato trellis works very well when you have that issue.

Yea I had to learn quick with the totes unless you get bigger net pots to make plants more stable, grow them short and lollipop for main colas. Or something I have yet to do. Buy the stakes that you would put in dirt(stainless steel or plastic), then drill holes in the lid and insert. Tie strings to stakes for support.

This 1 wanted to lean a lil on me.

Yea tying the fishing line so it stays tight is a bitch... although I don't have to undo it to change my buckets. Another thing you have to be careful of is making sure you don't do it too tight or the fishing line will eventually slice right through a branch. I might try the twist ties or something.



Another obvious thing that should prob go without saying... but if you start poppin holes in your lids make sure you aren't introducing light leaks.

I actually pop the holes in the lip that is on the bucket not lid

I had the same problem, I use tomato cages, and tie the leaning/falling plant to the cages...problem solved!

There are 2 ways to handle this. First plant your shit in rockwool or those brown sponges. From there, once they get bigger put those plugs in to a 3x3 rockwool cube. There will be enough weight to keep your plant from falling over. The other way is your way and probably doesn't look professional..

Im sorry but that little piece of rockwool wouldnt keep mine up.
